Quick Overview

Spicy perfume, blue fruits and almost into blackcurrant, fennel and dried herbs, honey and oranges. Probably popped a few too many items into the shopping basket there, but there’s a bit going on all right. Medium bodied, juicy and spicy, nuts and oranges, purple fruit, saline flavour, some grip and grain to the tannin, though by and large a gentle touch, and a tangy dried herb laced finish of good length. Full Mataro show on offer here."

Product Description

Sourced from the Marschall vineyard, a eighty year old organic and dry-grown vineyard, planted on its own rootstocks to clones unknown, in the Vine Vale district. The loose sandy soils reflect sunlight in a similar way to the Rhone’s pebbled vineyards and are well suited to Mataro.

The nose is sweetly fruited and savoury with dark berry fruit, blueberry, kirsch and mince pie spice. The first taste brings a wall of mouth-filling flavour, all licorice and dark fruit, with a touch of orange peel. The wine is all about unforced fruit intensity and a balance between glossy fruit, stalky whole bunch complexity and bright acid.

Pure, ripe, berried fruit made prettier by floral and Asian spice aspects. This is a joy to smell, to drink, to admire. The price too is more than reasonable. A 'What are you waiting for?' wine. 93 points James Halliday
