Quick Overview

Perfectly pitched, damn this is a super expressive Mataro. I doubt you'll find any Mataro as perfumed and energetic as this. Straight to the top of the dais for this sexy number.  Fruit expression all the way here. 67% whole bunch fermented, 14 days on skins, in barrel for 7 months (17% new French), unfined and unfiltered.

Sumptuously medium bodied, it's a delectable slurp. Think dark cherries and dark chocolate, Asian spices and pan juices. More time reveals hoisin and aniseed with some blue fruit and cedar tucked in neatly behind. I keep going back to be seduced by violet-like aromas. Weighing in at 13.5%, it's a wine you could easily sip away at all night - and I did, for a couple of nights in fact. Stunning! Scramble for it. 94 poi8nts Q Wine

Product Description

Yowsers! Hold your horses; whats that? A 100% whole bunch Mataro from the Barossa. Yes dear wine lover, that is correct so buckle up and prepare yourself for a delicious ride on one of our favourite grape varieties. Mataro just rocks. It’s savoury, spicy and just dead sexy.

Our Second Take Mataro, as mentioned previously is 100% whole bunch, aged for 8 months in 100% old, seasoned French oak barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2015 vintage in the Barossa was a good’un, stretching out nicely, giving us grapes with great flavour and balance. That certainly makes out job easier in the winery as we can guide the wine to bottle with minimal intervention and I’m sure you’ll agree, the resulting wine is pretty hard to put down.

Medium cherry-red in the glass with fruit aromas of dark plum, macerated summer berry fruits, blueberry and some mulberry high-tones providing aromatic lift. Hints of exotic spice, roasting meats, cherry pie, licorice, jasmine and gentle, nutty oak further in the distance. It sits at the lighter end of medium-bodied.

The whole bunch component allows plenty of light to shine of the ripe, pure fruit on the palate. Again lovely, juicy plum, blueberry and mulberry fruits lie at the wines core. There are hints of abundant exotic spice, hoi sin, red licorice, Peking duck, Barossa earth, purple flowers and light nutty French Oak notes. It peaks the drinkability meter; pure yet savoury with a spicy swing to its tail as it exits the palate and while it is lovely by itself, it would be the bomb with some BBQ’d meats or spicy stir fry action.
