An example of a master winemaker of Semillon at play with a great vineyard and a great vintage. The expectation was sky high, but easily cleared by this beautiful Semillon, with its gleaming rivulets of polished lemon and honeydew melon, its balance already wondrous, its length impeccable. Drink it tonight or 20 years hence. 97 Points
..... This is so delicious on release that it’s almost possible to forget its age-worthiness. It’s intensely, limey – almost kaffir lime – with zippy lemon and pebbly minerality. A hint of salinity and a suggestion of spice. Unwavering focus, a juicy core of flavour and excellent extension. Will offer much pleasure now and later. 96 Points

  2. Tyrrells Hunter Valley Semillon 2014

    Tyrrells Hunter Valley Semillon 2014

    Regular Price: $20.00

    Special Price: $19.00

    As low as: $17.99

What appeals is how easily drinkable, gentle, approachable yet varietal correct it is. Immediately it carries both the acid driven length of Tyrrell's Semillon, yet cast a little softer, with more green/yellow apple and lemonade fruit than some of the bone dry Vats (helped along by a perfect ripe vintage). Importantly, there is no sensation that this is a second or third wine, as it just feels naturally right - like a standard AC Chablis.
High on drinkability, yet made without compromise, its a great ad for just how enjoyable Hunter Sem can be. It lacks the wild intensity of the more serious Tyrrell's Sems, but is unquestionably enjoyable - I finished off a glass or three at a local overpriced Japanese without even trying.

  3. Deen De Bortoli Vat 5 Botrytis Semillon 375 mL

Deen De Bortoli Vat 5 Botrytis Semillon 375 mL
... There is also a lovely smooth richness and creaminess that makes it opulent and luscious to drink but not overly cloying. Indeed it is quite balanced with a lovely subtle nuttiness to it and lively acidity still. The palate is seamless, refined and long. Drink Now. 94-95/100 Excellent Verging On Superb.
