  1. West Cape Howe Mount Barker Riesling 2013

West Cape Howe Mount Barker Riesling 2013

Trophy for Best Riesling at Royal Perth Wine Show 2013 ... Trophy for Best Dry White at Royal Perth Wine Show 2013
The continental climate is the key to Great Southern wines, with cold nights and warm, although not often hot, days. Pale straw-green; tightly wound and zesty, with a pure play of lime and unsweetened lemon juice girdled by crisp, crunchy acidity. Bred in the purple for a long life ahead.

Vibrant honeysuckle blossom intermingles with the headiness of papaya salsa, spiked with a pinch of lemon pepper. A bright, aromatic style with a palate that dances with a lively burst of lemon gelato - subtle sweetness and vivacious acidity harmonizing to produce a wine of finesse and tension, with silky floral highlights and tropical succulence.

A little bottle of deliciousness. I don't score, but if I did, I'd give this 96/100. Rating: 96 Points; Winsor Dobbin, Wine of the Week, January 2013.
... an extremely luscious brandy snap, cumquat, nut and tea palate. This is seriously old material; 375 ml; Rating: 94 Points; James Halliday
... it's refreshingly vibrant, balanced and without any hint of cloying sweetness. Rating: 96 Points; Tyson Stelzer; Wine Taste

One of the Barossa's greatest gifts is its unique collection of fortified port and sherry style wines. This 30 year old (average age) pedro ximinez is sensational, essentially an amontillado sherry with emerging nutty, caramel, apricot and raisin characters, bergamot and racy acidity remaining. Rating 5 stars Tony Love

Extremely floral. Citrus blossom, jasmine and a hint of rose water. An impressive line of flavour with lemons and limes segueing into melon before the refreshment of a gin and tonic finish. Chalky grip on the back-palate. Should age well I’d imagine. 93 points Wine Will Eat Itself

Juicy fruit (and like the chewing gum), bright and bouncy full flavoured Riesling with a mix of citrus, green pear and a fetching floral mouth perfume. Maybe not a keeper, but very good to drink.92 points Winefront.com.au

Citrus blossom, almost lavender perfume, struck match, lime fruit. Fine and dry, but plenty of power packed in behind, light chalkiness, firm drizzled lime finish. Very good. Pure. Better wine than DJW, arguably, though I like the character of the DJW more. 94+ points Winefront.com.au

Nose is fabulous, pure Riesling, but with more. Lemon curd, lemon butter, lemongrass all mixed in with the usual cirtus scents, real; depth to the nose, with real class and poise, I'm realy impressed! Now somethign exotic, tangerines perhaps, then spices, and well on its goes! Beautiful nose ever changing and devloping! The palate too follows up ...  its quite delicious. Very long, that beautiful (again, guessing ) natural acid on a very long, fine and lingering finish. ... Beautiful wine, great fruit, great wine making, real class. Gavin Trott

Grown on 29 year old vines. Cropped low. Fermented dry. Labelled Porongurup Riesling.
A star of a wine, in star form. This is racy and long but with the fruit power to really give it some throttle. Juicy lime and lots of it. Floral overtones.
    Scintillating.

Best’s Riesling customarily has a whisker of sweetness. It’s part of its appeal. It has an excellent quality record too. This is a little less shouty than the 2012 but it’s none the lesser for it. It’s a wine, simply, of balance and length.  Comfortable in its skin. It tastes of lime and melon with floral notes drifting throughout. Chalky, textural finish. Beautiful from every angle.  Campbell Mattinson, WineFront, 3 September 2013
