    Bleasdale Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2015

    Regular Price: $21.99

    Special Price: $20.50

    As low as: $19.99

Rating 94 points - James Halliday's wine tasting note - Clones 76, 95 and Mendoza, wild yeast solids fermentation in French puncheons (25% new), partial mlf and 9 months maturation. Skilled winemaking has left the wine bright and crisp, not in sauvignon blanc territory; it is light-bodied, but white peach and grapefruit varietal flavours hold the floor, not oak or vanilla pod mlf. Will flower over the next 2-3 years.

Full-bodied and full-flavoured. Lots of oak on offer here, spicy and cedary both, with grapefruit and fleshy yellow stone fruits to the fore. There’s a trace of funk and plenty of mouthfeel. It looks (colour-wise) reasonably advanced but other than it being a bigger style, it presents as fresh. It evolves well as it rests in the glass too. It all seems a bit too much at first but in the end, you’d have to say this performs pretty well.

Wild yeast, a touch of mlf, a powerful hit of fruit flavour and the length to consummate it. This is an excellent wine to spend time with. On a bright line of acidity are hung quality fruit and oak. 95 points Campbell Mattinson Wine Companion.
One sip and I was hooked. This is dangerously good. It’s the kind of chardonnay so many of us are looking for. Rich with flavour, sizzling with acidity, purring with length – and yet, all the while, harmonious. It’s complex without making a big deal of it.
The combination of fruit and oak here is simply beautiful."

  1. Dexter Chardonnay 2014

    Dexter Chardonnay 2014

    Regular Price: $41.00

    Special Price: $39.99

    As low as: $38.00

Dexter Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay  is bright, pale lemon-gold, green tinged. Still a little shy to sniff, but there are hints of stone fruits. The palate is tightly contained by citrusy, grapefruity acidity, showing stone fruits, fig and its ripe and mouth-filling, held in balance by that refreshing acidity. Although there is 20% new oak, that component is background material along with suggestions of nutty, mealy complexity. This is a complex wine that wants more time; I’d suggest leaving it for another six to twelve months, from when it will repay amply that order of patience.

Australian chardonnay is in a great place; so too is the Garagiste range.

How powerful can a wine be before it loses its elegance? This tests the definition. It’s straw-coloured and powerfully flavoured and yet it floats and sings in harmony. It’s an elegant portrait of this wonderful white grape. It’s juicy with ripe nectarine and white peach, comes dripping with pear and fig, and cuts long with spicy, flinty, nutty goodness. There’s a rind-like character here, an extra bite to the flavour. It’s the icing on a gorgeous wine.

This is right in the slot. It’s lean and long, mostly, with grapefruit and citrus rind character drilling through to the flourish of the finish. Fuzzy peach and spiced wood characters are fringe players at most. It’s a highly disciplined chardonnay. It needs a year or two in bottle. Rated : 92 Points Winefront.com.au

Guilty By Association Preservative Free Tumbarumba Chardonnay 2015

    Regular Price: $21.00

    As low as: $19.00

Guilty By Association Chardonnay 2015 is generously flavoured with a creamy, slighty mealy texture and sings out "I'm a Tumbarumba chardonnay" with white peach, grapefruit, almonds and lemons. There's an unforced, effortless pace and an easy generosity of flavour. There's a slightly edgy tension which leads into a long finish. Given the minimal winemaking behind the scenes (preservative-free and vegan-friendly) it's a very polished wine that raises the bar for other PF wines.

From a cooler year, with no new oak used. No fining. No filtration or additions. White peach, almonds, brine and subtle struck match, honeyed florals even. Light to medium bodied, calm and composed, almost silky feel, sharpened up by a sweet lemon and stony acidity. Flows like picture of a waterfall taken with slow shutter speed. Cool. Refreshing. Focused. Bright. The length is exemplary too, gently nutty but pure and long.
Hard to slow down the drinking pace. 96 points Gary Walsh Winefront.com.au

"Hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, free-run juice wild-fermented in new and used French barriques, matured for 9 months. White peach blossom is first out of the blocks on the bouquet and the palate alike, then it gets interesting as other white fruits shimmy with grapefruit, almond kernel and cashew also craving attention. It is a chardonnay that floats airily over, not in, the glass. "

"Not tried any Kooyong wines for a couple of years now. Always enjoy Clonale, which is something of a ‘go to’ wine for me when cruising the fridges of a bottle shop .... which pretty much scuppers my future Clonale cruising opportunities. Drats.

Lime, some yeasty funk, subtle stuck match and cedar spice. Light to medium bodied, chalky and tight, ripe citrus flavours and maybe a little nougat gloss, and savoury and milky with it too. Finish is long and satisfying. Love drinking this. I’m immediately taken with it, and don’t have to think too hard about the score.

  3. Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay 2013

Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay 2013

    Regular Price: $100.00

    Special Price: $96.00

    As low as: $94.99

Partial wild ferment, everything in barrel, maturation was 11 months in 100% new oak. Despite the vintage warmth this is the most contained Leeuwin I can remember, still green straw coloured and youthful. There is the classic nutty golden oak character of Leeuwin, though – like an oak sunrise. That sounds rude, but the barrel influence here is a big part of the recipe. The length, the power, the weight… all of it smells of absolute quality. Importantly, that oak doesn’t derail the flavour, and every mouthful is a smorgasbord of Chardonnay flavour. You can’t deny the glory of a wine like this – sure, the winemaking sits on top, but the latent glory is apparent. Big yes, but stick it in the cellar for a few years. Best drinking: 2018-2028. 18.5/20, 94/100+. 13.5%, $96. Would I buy it? Yes, even despite the price Andrew Graham Australian Wine Review

"An elegant, vibrant and fragrant nose with lemon, lime and pear in the foreground. Notes of peach blossom and subtle jasmine create lift and combines with cardamom pod, almond meal and roasted cashew. The palate has immense purity, with power and persistence. Lime and lemon pith define the palate, which carries through to a delicately layered middle, threaded with a fine mineral spine. Sesame seed and blanched almonds enhance complexity, finishing with a sparkling acid structure. This wine has energy in its youth, and will build texture with cellaring." - Leeuwin Estate.

Perhaps not as rich as the 2013, at least at this stage, but with wonderfully intense flavours, a crackling line of crisp acidity & some sulphide complexity it expresses both it’s provenance & (we feel) more than delivers to what we aspire – a wine that is both interesting & delicious.

    Rating 95 James Halliday
From a single block of P58 clone planted in '98; hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, wild yeast-fermented, full mlf, not fined or filtered, with no additions other than SO2; 75 dozen made. The bouquet is very complex, with some Burgundian funk, the palate intense, lively and long with a core of grapefruit and white peach. Its best years are still in front of it. 95 points James Halliday

Light straw in colour this wine displays lifted aromas of apricots and rockmelon. The palate oozes an opulent, mouth filling mid palate showing honeysuckle with a hint of lemon. This luscious, complex wine has wonderful acid balanced by an incredible softness. Drinking beautifully now and will continue to improve with cellaring over the next 5 years. Peach, mixed citrus, gentle vanilla and cedar oak and some wheatgerm.Medium bodied, juicy fruit, but with some restraint,  limey acidity offset with a dab of cream and almond. Good length. Acid freshens the aftertaste, but does not twang.
This is nicely done: meets the modern and traditional schools of Hunter Chardonnay in the middle playground.  90 points Winefront.com.au"

.....You can smell the perfect ripeness from first whiff, with banana oak and yeast characters over a surprisingly taut palate. It's not particularly complex, and there's a little warmth on the finish, but otherwise it's just a lovely Chard for anyone into the more medium bodied, mod-Hunter style.
For $20 this is Goldilocks Chardonnay.  Score: 17.7/20, 92/100

Nice wine this – feels like essence of Hunter Valley Shiraz. Medium bodied with savoury tannins drawling through the wine. Offers up red fruits, dustiness but not too much, and light, washy acidity keeps things fresh. It might lack some stuffing but it’s pitch-perfect as an example of Hunter and drinkability with savouriness. Crunch and chew in the finish lends a hand.

"Vanilla, honeysuckle, struck match, citrus and pear, with a touch of spice. Light to medium bodied, perhaps on the early-picked side, but not short on flavour either. Gentle glossiness with flint and struck match to scrub up the texture, grapefruit and lime the main flavours, though it’s not abrasive and has a cool white peach thing going on too. Length is excellent. It invites easy drinking while delivering complexity. Deluxe, but restrained you might say. I’d say this is going to improve with a couple of years in bottle."

White peach, almond, spice, cut fennel and preserved lemon. Fine boned, tight grapefruity acidity, gentle savoury and yoghurt flavours, flint and light glossiness. Good burst of flavour, though not too much of it: certainly leans on the more restrained side of the Chardonnay fence. Finish is long and really bursts out all lemony with a softening touch of almond paste.
