Great release this one. It has a sparkling clarity and energy  ... raspberries and blackberries, cracked pepper, spice, and a distinct sort of warm bricks smell, but don’t mind me. It’s fine and fresh, with graphite tannin, and a cool spiced bramble fruited finish of finesse and solid length. Rated : 94 Points Winefront.com.au Learn More

"There's going to be some very good white wines coming out of the Yarra Valley from vintage 2017, I think. Subdued wine, and while it has flavour, it's as much about texture as anything else. A little smokiness, lemon and peel, maybe white peach and almond, but quite winey rather than fruity. Fresh and crunchy acidity, green apple and lemon barley, a fine chalk dust texture and some milk powder stuff in there too. Finish has a particularly good amount of energy, and a gustatory crunch of pithy bitterness. Learn More

Invariably interesting style of Chardonnay from LL. It’s a bit Yarra v Jura v Chablis, but for all that, very much its own thing. Without wanting to typecast, this is more a Mike Bennie style of Chardonnay than a Campbell Mattinson one. Subdued fruit, into lemon rind, citrus, green apple, aniseed, with nutty saline character. It’s savoury, a little kombucha or yoghourt sourness, intense acidity, fine chalk dust texture, and a long perfumed/sour-edged finish. It’s engaging and very good, though likely t Learn More

"Just beautiful. This is chardonnay going for gold. It has plenty of oomph too; nothing wimpy here. Peaches, pears, grapefruit, nougat and cedarwood. Both variety and oak get a good unashamed workout. There you go. Quality, nailed." 94+ Points. The Wine Front, 19 December 2018 Learn More

"Well, I ordered six bottles just now. Inside information, and all that. Struck match, lime, grapefruit, almonds, chicken stock, flickers of cool green. Fine and composed, surges through the mouth, grips on tight, and doesn’t let go. So long. Flint, chalk, crunch, texture, subtle bitterness. It’s all here. It’s very Adult Chardonnay. Racy. A nudge and wink to those in-the-know. Outstanding. Rated : 97 Points Gary @Winefront.com.au Learn More

There';s a lot to admire with Hoddles Creek Estate and the decision to employ no new oak on the grapes destined for this 1er release is one of them. This is swish. Straw-yellow in colour, stone fruit riddled, shy on the nose but textural and alive on the palate. A gentle creaminess, spice notes, slate even, honeysuckle and toast. Extremely pure. Flowing robes of flavour. Grapefruit-like bite to the aftertaste, as a distinct positive. It's still gathering itself but already it's a treat to drink. A beautiful, beauti Learn More

Straight through the covers for four. This is a beautiful chardonnay in anyone’s language. It has it all. Its fruit flavours are intense, filled with sun and yet fresh and racy too. Its oak has an impact but in an appropriate way. Its texture: seductive. Its finish – carried along by that gorgeous intensity – is an exclamation mark if ever there was one. One sip and I was both hooked and completely void of doubt. Says it all." Rated Learn More

An alluring combination of cumquats, peaches and yellow grapefruit melds with the more savoury aromas of almond nougat, vanilla beans and marzipan - an opulent concoction that is infused with a charry smokiness. The savouriness carries through onto a wonderfully dry, but rich and powerful palate that has great texture and concentration - evidence of this wine's low-intervention genesis. Learn More

The Sexton chardonnay vineyard was planted in 1997. It's at Gruyere in the lower valley. It turns out terrific chardonnay. This is rich, fine, seamless, quartz-like. It's complex in an integrated way; no bells, whistles or alarms but plenty going on regardless. Grapefruit and white peach, spent matches buried into the fruit, a smoky mineralogy. A long and gentle vintage weather pattern, slightly cooler than the long-term average. The fruit gained lovely perfumes and textures while maintaining a magnificent verve. Pristine Chardonnay fruit and respectful winemaking. Fermentation and maturation in mainly seasoned French oak (only 5% new), adds complexity and generosity of texture without comprising the purity of the aromatics or flavour. Seven months in French oak sur lie. Learn More

    Domaine Naturaliste Artus Chardonnay 2018
Artus is an artistic translation of our local Gin Gin clone into wine. It is a provocative, complex and textural wine exuding the seductive spirit of “old world” chardonnay. The vines have been managed to allow only dappled light into the fruiting zone. This promotes flavor development, low tannins and bright levels of natural acidity. The fruit is farmed in the cool southern end of Margaret River. The tiny 100g Gin Gin clusters are hand harvested at first light to preserve freshness of fruit. Flavours of fresh nectarines and candied pecan nuts Learn More

The fruit is hand-picked to insure only clean, healthy bunches are selected. We then whole bunch press, and settle the juice overnight in tank. This is followed by a light racking directly to barrel (approx. 95% solids), where natural fermentation takes place. MLF is not encouraged and wines are sulphured directly after primary. Learn More

Pale, bright straw-green; faintly nutty/toasty oak joins white peach and green apple on the bouquet, the palate opening with a reprise of the bouquet before it expands dramatically on the finish, thence to a sorbet-like aftertaste. Upper Yarra in fine voice." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion) 96 points Learn More
