Bondar's sophomore Fiano release is again sourced from Ben Lacey's vineyard in Seaview (McLaren Vale). The vines are 6-years-old, grafted onto 25-year-old Chardonnay rootstocks rooted in shallow dark Biscay clay over limestone. Lightly whole bunch pressed, the lion's share went into a single ceramic egg and a small stainless tank for (natural) fermentation. One small bin (around 500 kg) was kept separate for fermentation on its skins. The finished wines remained on lees, unsulphured until June, and then the three parcels were blended to create this small batch release. Learn More

"I’d be giving this another six months or more to settle into bottle before drinking. Opens up with a banana/floral ester character, but given a good dose of air, it settles into something more at ease with itself. Honeydew, almonds and flowers, a little dried herb perhaps. It’s a finer boned iteration, it feels, with cool acidity, nashi pear and lemon barley, a dusty/chalky texture, and a crunchy green apple and fennel laced finish of fair length. Good potential here, but not quite ready to go as yet." Learn More

This is seriously good Sauvignon Blanc from France’s Loire Valley. Very different in style to the Australian and New Zealand savvy’s to which we’ve become accustomed, this quality white is built around a core of flinty, mineral aromas. As the wine opens up, delicate fruity pear nuances emerge. A wonderfully balanced wine, the style is fresh, rich and lively. “Pale gold. Intensely aromatic with rose petals and lychees – sounds so clichéd but that is what it is like. It is hard to believe the stated alcohol because although this is deeply scented, it is supremely delicate and has the freshness to balance. A little more oily and viscous on the finish but floats like a much lighter wine. ”Jancis Robinson, March 2016 Bright yellow. Smoky saline nuances to the fresh citrus and spice aromas on the discreet nose. Then fresh and lemony on the palate, offering sneaky concentration. Peppery acidity firm Learn More

Appealing aromas of nuts and white fruits. The palate is technically very dry but without any unwanted bitterness or acidity. Nice medium length and smoothness. Enjoy as an aperitif, with shellfish or with trout.  Soaring aromas of yellow peaches, mango, dried mint, and wet limestone—this is classic Alsatian Pinot Blanc. The palate boasts moderate weight with a spritely arching spine of oyster shell, pleasantly bitter peach skin, and grapefruit pith pit co-mingling with flecks of sea salt. Olivier Humbrecht MW is making far drier wines than he used to, and this is a perfect example. It’s focused, pure, confident and perfectly handled, with quince, peach and spice fruit. The precision is absolutely exemplary. Drink 2016-2023. The nose shows typical limestone influence, with nice nutty, toasty and slight mineral hints. The palate is powerful and dense and aeration brings out some honey character as well as ripe fruits. The finish is quite velvety. Learn More

Girlan's entry level Pinot Bianco comes from hand-picked fruit grown on the mineral rich hillsides of Cornaiano, at altitudes ranging from 450 to 500 metres above sea level. At this level, the juice is simply tank fermented, with 10% going through malo to add some flesh to the wine's crisp Alpine bones. It's a racy, pulpy, kaffir lime, apple, and spice scented quencher with lovely, pithy minerality and a zesty tang on the finish. Another genuine bargain from this over delivering outfit. Learn More

94 Points - Campbell Mattinson. "I don’t have any of the finer details but it’s a terrific wine. Texture, flavour, aroma and then some. The word gravitas springs to mind and yet it’s frisky and perfumed too. Indeed one sip and I was: bang, that’s a gold medal wine. Wish there were all easy like this. Fennel flying through florals. Character abounds. All over this at the price." Gold Medal - 2017 Adelaide Hills Wine Show Gold Medal - 2017 Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show Learn More

a classic vintage throughout much of Europe and Veneto was no exception. The vineyards began with excellent soil moisture levels and the vines responded well to ideal spring conditions before a very warm, dry summer slowed growth and limited yields. A warm , clear Autumn provided excellent ripening but crucially cool nights ensured the retention of naturally acidity. The wines are surprisingly fresh and aromatic with excellent depth of flavour. March, 2017 Ian D'Agata Vinous Media 90 points - Bright golden-tinged yellow. Sweet spices, butter and ripe pear on the nose. Then creamy in texture, offering gently honeyed and spice nuances to the ripe orchard fruit flavors. Finishes quite rich and long; this is surprisingly lively for a wine with 40 percent Auxerrois, which tends to give honeyed, luscious wines not especially characterized by lip-smacking acidity (the other 60 percent of the blend is Pinot Blanc).   Learn More

"This estate vineyard, planted '70, was acquired by SC Pannell in '14; matured in French oak (20% new). Wow. This isn't the trendy SC Pannell with aspirations to make light to medium-bodied reds for connoisseurs of fine things, but a throwback to Steve Pannell's days with Hardys (there is an explanation, but no space). I love this wine and I love drinking it. It's been stripped back fro the artifice of winemaking to express the breadth and purity of McLaren Vale shiraz. Learn More

A layered and thought provoking blend inspired by the whites of the Rhone Valley. The underlying rich medley of fresh and roasted stone fruit is topped with a toasty note of spice-laced crumb. Balanced with a restrained, zesty hit of ginger on the lingering finish. Traditional to the Turkey Flat style the Marsanne was picked early and pressed lightly, then this year fermented in barrel. "A new range for Tyrrell's comprising a Shiraz, Chardonnay and this Semillon. From what I can gather sits between the single vineyard/Vat wines and Lost Block. Bang on for presentation and style too. What appeals is how easily drinkable, gentle, approachable yet varietal correct it is. Immediately it carries both the acid driven length of Tyrrell's Semillon, yet cast a little softer, with more green/yellow apple and lemonade fruit than some of the bone dry Vats (helped along by a perfect ripe vintage).
