  1. Chateau Tahbilk Marsanne

    Chateau Tahbilk Marsanne
    $15.99

“Comes as part of a long and distinguished series of wines, the screwcap guaranteeing the development of honeyed, toasty flavours and aromas over the coming decade. Pale green-straw; at the start of a long life, already expressive and juicy, with a mix of lime and honeysuckle on the impressively long palate; has the acidity for long ageing.” 93 Points James Halliday - wine companion.com.au

We were so loud and unruly by the end of the second course that it was hard to hear the call to arms over at the grill. We finally made our way joyfully to the chef to gather our juicy chorizo and an astounding salad of flame-roasted red peppers, beetroot, rocket and shaved manchego. The wine was the BK 2011 Syrah Nouveau, a bright, rustic, medium-bodied vin de pays-style wine. On the nose the wine was pungent and lively; on the palate it was ripe berries and cinnamon sticks. If we opened one bottle we must have hazily opened six. Stuart Robinson ~ thevinsomniac.com

Good intensity here. Really fresh and perfumed. Inviting. Textural. Almost chewy. Rose petals and green apples. Stonefruity power to the mid palate. Chalky finish. Has that ‘desperate for shellfish’ quality. Tending towards brineyness. Perfumed aftertaste. Very good – drinking and buying. 90 points WInefront.com.au

Beautiful nose that is at once complex yet integrated, and its hard to pull yourself away from it to taste. It starts out with a touch of apricot from the Viognier, which soon moves over into limes, almond, pear, melon and much more. Balanced, intense, as fresh as a daisy, and totally delicious with a whisp of fine tannins on the finish. Wonderful stuff! the auswine panel

Made by the unflappable Javier Murua. Almost entirely tempranillo but co-fermented with a smidge of grenache. Sees a small portion of old French and American oak. Elegant yet characterful and then punchy through the finish. Has structure. Has a big dry finish. Licorice and cherry and twiggy sinewy almost-bitter notes. Chicory too. A grunty wine. Will be a handy drinking option through the cooler months. Like it. 90 points Winefront

2012 in the Adelaide Hills was a mild, low-yielding year which gave rise to excellent fruit intensity and high natural acidity. The mild weather during ripening was perfect for allowing generous flavour development before the sugars ripened. The result is a flavoursome, crisp, dry white wine that is ready to drink now but will happily evolve in the bottle for two to three years.

  3. Mandoleto Catarratto Sicilia 2011 (Case Buy)

Mandoleto Catarratto Sicilia 2011 (Case Buy)

    Regular Price: $15.00

    Special Price: $13.00

Green pear, citrus, apricot kernel and a few dried herbs, but perhaps ‘cooly fruity’ is a good way to describe it. It’s clean and refreshing with excellent fruit purity and a little bit of ‘mineral’, perhaps there’s a touch of sweetness to round out  and balance, but feels pretty much dry and pulls that way with its gently herbal and sparkling finish. Well, maybe not ultra-complex, but so good to drink. 91 points Winefront.com.au
