Quick Overview

(Note on the 2012 base) "... excellent this year. This too is a blend of base year 2012 and reserve wines from 2011, which are aged for a year in barrel. The wine is superb on the nose, offering up an aromatic constellation of pear, apple, brioche, chalky soil tones, white flowers and a lovely topnote of lemon zest.

On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very refined on the attack, with a lovely core, elegant mousse, bright, well-integrated acids and lovely grip on the long and complex finish. This is an exquisitely balanced Brut Nature and eminently drinkable right out of the blocks." 92 points, John Gilman, A View from the Cellar

Product Description

Disgorged in July 2015, this bottling is singing with depth, ripeness, fleur de sel minerality and the citrusy cut so typical of this wine. Vibrant and intense, there's also lots of spicy, white peach fruit, lemon pith and brown spice notes. The palate is super fresh with chalky precision and a deliciously refreshing quinine and flinty lick to close. While there is no dosage, thanks to the ripeness of Laherte's grapes and partial malolactic, the wine is very well balanced. Like all Laherte's Champagne, this was disgorged à la volée, which means by hand.

"Although it's lively and brisk, with a prominently chalky undertone, it reflects its terroir origins exceptionally well-you immediately see that it's not a Côte des Blancs chardonnay, as the clay topsoils of this area give the wine a certain roundness and breadth on top of the racy minerality. It's perfectly balanced as a non-dosé, its 20 percent of malolactic undoubtedly helping to create a better harmony of acidity, and while there is a pleasing depth of citrus and apple fruitiness, along with hints of dried mango and preserved ginger, this wine is really all about soil and expression of place.
