Torzi Matthews Old Vines Shiraz 1903 single vineyard of Domenico Martino 2012

($35; 14.2% alcohol; screw cap; 93++ points). Phillip White So what makes this better?  Start with its alarming purity of message.  It's a letter of love from one tiny patch of priceless heirloom Shiraz in the northern Barossa. It's disgusting in its brazen determination to seduce. Take all the fruits and aspects of the Longhop above, and dilute them about 5:1 in a deep simmer of mulberry and baby beetroot.  Smack your favourite schoolteacher's blackboard duster against the side of the glass to add some country.  Then think of black satin and silk, patent leather court shoes and Jean Deprez Bal à Versailles perfume.  Take a schlück, and you get the sense of iron as much as sinuous acid and flesh.  Sexy beast's packin' a heavy short, so you get those whiffs of gunblue and cordite just to warn you that you're in the dark alone with this one.  Good for duck or softer, creamy cheddar.  And still inexpensive.

Atlas Wines ‘Section 32’ Shiraz 2011

Regular Price: $25.99

Special Price: $23.50

Astonishingly deep purple-crimson; exclusively estate-grown, made in small batches, and then a barrel selection. The richness of the black fruits on the medium- to full-bodied palate is exceptional by the standards of any vintage, let alone '11. It has spicy/savoury characters, speaking of a cool vintage, layers of black fruits, and a long and even palate, the tannins firm but ripe.  95 points James Halliday Wine Companion

Balnaves Coonawarra Shiraz 2010

Regular Price: $26.50

Special Price: $24.50

Medium purple-crimson; a welcoming bouquet of perfumed black fruits and perfectly balanced oak leads into a medium-bodied palate, the balance good, the length better still; fine tannins intermingle with lighter fruit notes on the finish and aftertaste. Drink: To 2010;  94 Points; James Halliday, Wine Companion.

Battle of Bosworth Puritan Shiraz 2014

Unoaked, and all the better for it, sulphur Free, and all the better for it. Bright summer red drinking of the highest style and quality!!
A super vibrant black/ purple colour in the glass heralds a lively dark forest fruit and black cherry nose, as well as a lushness and hints of liquorice and spice. The wine has a rich, textural and even palate tied together with beautifully structured tannins. This is a medium to full-bodied style of wine.
We should all drink more of these styles of wines, indeed, we should all drink more of THIS wine! - Gavin Trott

Bellwether Wines Shiraz Malbec 2012

Regular Price: $27.00

Special Price: $25.00

As low as: $24.50

Absolutely beautiful to drink – glossy and slippery in texture with a pop of spice and a dash of pepper. It’s a seamless flow of crisp, gently sweet fruit and finishes with a lick of sweetness. Has an exotic feel to the wine in sweet/sour perfumes and flavours, almost pushing into amaro territory, but so very enjoyable. Joyous kind of vibe.

Best’s Bin No 1 Shiraz 2012

Regular Price: $24.99

Special Price: $24.50

As low as: $21.00

This is the kind of shiraz I like to see from Best’s. Juicy with acidity, medium-bodied, naturally complex, flush with dark cherry fruit, modestly spiced. It’s the wine you think of when you think of Best’s Shiraz. And it’s a very good version of it, perhaps even tip top. Nothing out of place, able to be enjoyed young but cellarworthy. Bay leaf and reductive notes just add to the show. Excellent wine, excellent value. 93 points Winefront.com.au

BK Wines Cult Syrah 2012
Out of stock

Cult Shiraz thinks itself a bit of a rock star... ...but is fortunately sexy enough to pull it off. Audacious and loud-mouthed, Cult belies its cool-climate origins with sweet, dark fruit and ripples of chocolate at its core. There is a persuasiveness and warmth to this wine that feels passionate, intense and instantly even perilously appealing. Consider yourself warned.

BK Wines Syrah Nouveau 2013

Regular Price: $22.50

Special Price: $22.00

As low as: $20.00

The finish sees a little spice, some white pepper. It's damn enjoyable, a back deck kind of wine. You could even chill it down some, and at this alcohol is a great lunchtime quaffer. That's not a pejorative statement. An unoaked style of Shiraz. The wine has bright fruit flavours with notes of spice, aniseed and black currant jube. Light to medium bodied with fine tannin, soft fruit and a fresh, crisp finish. A light, food friendly style of red that is both delicious and highly drinkable

Gold medals at Perth, Adelaide and Hobart in ’13, and Sydney this year, underline the quality of the wine. An extraordinary shiraz with untold layers of inky black fruits kept in an envelope of 14% alcohol; the way it continues to express itself well into the aftertaste is mind-blowing. 14% alc; screwcap
98 points; drink to 2052; $65
