The more you gaze, the more dumbly you founder. It has all the blackest aromas from all the above reviews and then more, but here they seem even more serpentine, slender and slithery. It's Carmen Miranda/Eartha Kitt territory. Imagine the perfumes those lasses would wear, mingling on the one stage. But there's no milliner: here, the fruity dancin' hats were made by a confectioner working with a parfumier.

a complex mixture of ripe blackberry and plum fruit with a dash of creamy vanillin oak. The palate is medium to full bodied which starts with some sweet plummy fruit, the flavour then builds in the palate to provide an explosion of raspberry flavours. There is some lovely mouth coating tannins which combine with dark chocolate oak and fruit to provide a great depth and length of flavour.

OZ WINE REVIEW Andrew Graham, OCT 2011 “… dense liquorice, chocolate fudge, dark berries and just a little alcohol lift. It’s a very solid, rich and concentrated nose, perhaps a little obvious for some but that obviousness is more just regional character to me. The palate too is utterly Vale derived, with more chocolate fudge-mocha rich fruit and oak, built full bodied, rich and decadent with that lovely tarry/red berried middle that the Vale does so well. Long, even, ripe and powerful….”

The colour is an indicator to the power and concentration of this wine, deep black red. The bouquet is dark blackberry spice, with hints of spice and red liquorice, the oak is all French which is subtle and gently enhances its layered characters.The palate is full with sweet fruit of ripe mulberry and spicy blackberries. The fruit weight is powerful and long with grainy balanced tannin and acidity.
