Matured for 14-16 months in new and used French and American oak. Deeply coloured, this is a lusciously hedonistic wine with that X-factor Blewitt Springs (with its cooler climate) unfailingly delivers given responsible viticulture.
This wine grows each time it is retasted. 96 points James Halliday

McLaren Vale shiraz of substance and style.
It’s big, it’s beefy, it shows plenty of both fruit and oak, and it’s not shy of tannin either. This ripper red makes no excuses for anything; it’s big on everything, including value, thank you very much, and it does it all very well. Rated : 94 Points Winefront.com.au

It’s a beautiful style and a beautiful price. No brainer territory for me. Flush with cherry-plum fruit, splashed with smoky vanillin oak, tipped by both mint and clove characters and finely but decidedly tannic through the finish.
It will live a long life. It sluices with acidity. And yet it’s absolutely satisfying to drink right now."

“This is right in the heart of medium-bodied shiraz, black cherry, plum and blackberry fruits encased in a silken web of tannins, and a fleeting glimpse of French oak, Yes, it’s $20.” – 96 Points James Halliday
“Bargain alert here. Lovers of high quality South Australian Shiraz at affordable prices, walk this way. Blackberries, Xmas spices with a little black pepper thrown in, low-key vanilla oak in support. Medium to full bodied, smooth mesh of fine powdery tannin wrapped around blackberry and dark cherry fruit, a wee bit of smoky oak and salted beef to add a savoury dimension, and a ripe plump finish of fine length. Goes very well.” – 93 Points Gary Walsh

"Dense, inky purple-crimson; absolutely achieves expressing 'a profound sense of place'; unctuous black fruits swathed in dark chocolate drive the bouquet and medium to full-bodied palate with relentless precision, yet keep balance and length. Oak and tannins are part of the package, but you sense them, rather than feel their impact. Carries its alcohol with ease."

To the wine in question. It opens up stalky with fresh red forest berries, yellow fleshed plums, generous and complex spice, juniper and gun smoke. Floral and herbal top notes. A savoury and vinous palate that is highly structured by vital acidity and twiggy tannin. Sinuous and medium-bodied with minerally extension. Challenging but ultimately rewarding. 92 points Winewilleatitself

  3. First Drop Mothers Milk Shiraz 2015

First Drop Mothers Milk Shiraz 2015
    $25.00

Not a sledgehammer style, this Barossa Shiraz is made for drinking! Soft, slurpy and textured it is balanced with good acidity, which refreshes the palate and makes you go back for a second / third glass. Sourced from 2 unique vineyards, it is fruit laden, savoury and dangerously easy to drink! It is matured for 12 months in French oak hogsheads to allow the fruit to express itself.

Garnet red with purple hues, a complex nose of dark cherry and blackberry aromas with a hint of forest floor and spice. Vibrant dark cherry and blackberry with a hint of ‘wombat rolled in all spice’ balanced with an even, textural palate with soft, supple tannins

...... From a fabulous vintage and at the hand of Steve Flamstead, one of Australia’s best winemakers. It has all the right credentials and yet it tastes even better than it sounds. It is just the ticket. Cherry plum, crushed dry leaves, the most blessed slow-crash of tannin, herbage and black pepper, all carried along on a river of silk. Eucalypt and clove characters play side roles.
The sleeves of this wine are folded immaculately. It’s neat, tidy, contained. But it’s pure and beautiful; it sits in the glass with its heart wide open."

    "The interplay of warm- and cool-climate characters is quite beautiful. Pepper and spice notes abound but in a context of fresh, ripe, blackberry and black cherry flavour. Licks of fennel, smoke and violet are part of the show and there's a hum of fine tannin from at least the mid-palate onwards. It gives up the flavours but then draws them all back in;
controlled; classical." 96 points, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2016

"The hits keep coming, This is another fine, sophisticated release. Black pepper and clove notes thread through a myriad of both savoury and fruit-filled characters: licorice, black cherry, meat, green herbs, peppercorn and violets among them. It flows in decisive manner towards a structured, spice-riddled finish. It will live for many years but, being so well balanced, drinks well young." 95 points, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2016

This is one of Nicholas Crampton’s (Fourth Wave and Woods Crampton) new projects. Just when you think that he could not possibly fit another brand in his portfolio, he manages to slip one in.

Nice and fresh and juicy, but spicy and peppery too. Crushed blackberries, grilled meat (though suitable for vegetarians), maybe something like liquorice. Medium bodied, light peppery tannin, spicy and savoury, with the forest berry freshness coming through on the finish. They nailed this one to the door! Bang on. 91 points Winefront.com.au

This, for me at least, is textbook Barossa Shiraz. It’s perfumed and rosy, smooth with milk chocolate, raspberry and plum, light spicy oak framing the fruit beautifully. Medium bodied, silky and fine, melts on the palate and lays the charm on thick throughout. Turkish delight and gossamer fine tannin trails on a long fresh finish. Delightful."

Has perfume and spice laid on thick, and also this kind of ferrous thing going on that’s quite intriguing. Bramble fruit, grilled meat, very subtle cinnamon oak, medium bodied, lively and slightly sappy, fine emery tannin, with plenty of spice on a long cool finish. Savoury and lithe expression of Barossa Shiraz, and very nicely done too."

Unusual sophistication at this price point for a Barossa Shiraz. .......blueberry and floral/apricot perfume, pan juices and crisp cut of acidity. Finish is dry, meaty and spicy, with a vapour trail of sweet blue fruit. Likely better again with another year in bottle.”
92 points - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
Immediately this is sexy, plush, purple wine. Swish modern Barossa Shiraz, with polish well above its pricepoint. Lavish plum and boysenberry fruit, coffee powder oak in the background, all in mid-weight and round form. .....the overall generosity and endless drinkability of this style makes it really quite more-ish.Nice wine and at a nice price. Best drinking: 2016-2025. 17.7/20, 92/100. 14%, $25. Ozwinereview

Allow this wine time to breathe and it spreads its wings impressively. It tastes of dark, sweet-centred blackberry, chocolate, mocha and ground spices but the way it combines freshness and depth is the thing; and then there's the way guy ropes of flavour-packed tannin stake a deep hold,
keeping everything in place both now and long into the future. 95 points James Halliday

Greenock Shiraz is deep purple-black in colour. Bright and lifted, the bouquet displays characters of blackberry, cherry, fruit cake, ripe plum, mocha and oriental spice. These ripe black fruit flavours continue to the powerfully flavoured full-bodied palate.
Driven by intense fruit purity, the palate is complimented with subtle oak barrel
characters. The natural tannins are lightly chalky but fine adding structure to support the strong fruit. With layers of complexity this is a very pure but sophisticated wine of great balance that is completed by a solid lingering finish. Greenock is a complex Barossa Shiraz that has a long cellaring future.

Dark core with a crimson rim. Red and black fruits combine in this Jack's (it's usually dominated by black fruits). Youthful cherry, blue berries and red currents are predominately present with hints of violets, sage and fennel. Medium bodied with powerful primary fruits upon opening. The 2014 is approachable and well-structured with a supple mid palate. Overall plum and cherry flavours combine with cooler climate characters of mixed herbs, good acidity and chalky dry tannins.

The percentage contribution of the two regions isn't specified, but the wine is exceptionally rich, complex and deeply layered, the flavours running through black fruits, licorice and black pepper. It’s a velvety shiraz with plum and redcurrant flavours oozed along by the helping hand of creamy vanillin oak. There’s a smokiness too, a clovey character, and a gentle jangle of acidity. True to both style and form. Some might find the acid here slightly too high but most will enjoy the beautiful combination of fruit and oak, as is the Majella way."
