Quick Overview

.....Rosehip and redcurrant, a little bit savoury and nutty, some flint to the texture, balanced and unobtrusive acidity, and a nutty and earthy finish of fine length. Delightful." Rated : 93 Points Winefront.com.au

Product Description

This will set the cat among the pigeons. It's rosé but you could drink it as a standard table red - it's certainly darker in colour and more weighty, for instance, than many reds. This rosé is its own beast. What is effectively a field blend of primarily Barossa Valley Mataro with a small portion of Grenache and Shiraz is given a cold soak in the fridge overnight before being pressed. The juice is then transferred to large format (four hundred eighty litre) old oak puncheons were wild yeast fermentation is allowed to initiate. The fruit is fermented in barrel until dry without malolactic fermentation. Once fermentation is  completed, the wines was matured on yeast lees in barrel for six months.

An intriguing colour, bright but velvety, and on the dark side for a Rose. The nose is all soft red fruits and sweet spice with just the faintest trace of candied fruits. The palate is distinctly different to the average rose, with the richly flavoured and deeply fruited Mataro provided a  level of depth rarely seen. Shaping the fruit is complexity and structure before a dry finish. An interesting and rewarding full bodied Rose.

"Mainly Mataro with a spot of Grenache.

This is always a good wine, and in 2017, there’s no change. Rosehip and redcurrant, a little bit savoury and nutty, some flint to the texture, balanced and unobtrusive acidity, and a nutty and earthy finish of fine length. Delightful."
