Quick Overview

Toni Paterson MW

94 Points

There is something very satisfying about Barossa red, with all its generosity and lusciousness, and Tim Smith makes an excellent modern example. It is soft and opulent, chocolatey and plummy, but there’s also great lift and vibrancy, with hints of rose, redcurrants and spice. The tannins are plentiful, yet ripe and integrated, and there is excellent flavour progression through the length of the palate. Very well-made and delicious. The Real Review, 05 April 2017

Product Description

The fruit for this wine is carefully sourced from several old vineyards in the Barossa Valley floor; areas include Tanunda, Seppeltsfield, Nuriootpa, Kalimna and Light Pass. Vine age is 100+ years for the oldest parcel and around 20 years for the youngest. It is the expert selection of these small parcels and subsequent winemaker prowess that creates the resultant reputable wine bearing the stamp of Tim Smith. Aged in a combination of new and old French oak, this wine is another that benefits from cellaring…if you can wait.

Blackberry, clove, sage, sweet earthiness and liquorice. Full bodied, but kind of lithe too, silky, toasty, savoury and sage-laced, mixed berries, firm acidity and insistent length. It’s a very good example of ‘classic’ Barossa Valley Shiraz.
