The ‘Vincent’ is Cirillo’s entry level wine and is made from some of the oldest Grenache plantings in the world with vines a mere 80 years young, (Meanwhile their top wine, the 1850 Old Vine, comes from the oldest vines with many over 160 years old!)
Its aroma is less overwhelmingly floral – instead it has a more savoury meatiness, with an underlying minerality and structure that begs to be examined. On the palate it shows the same sweet fruit but it finishes magnificently dry, with savoury spices, hints of cinnamon, clove and bitter cocoa. The tannins are small and grippy but incredibly smooth, and combined with and long, drawing acidity give it great length and a superb finish.
It is a phenomenal wine for under $30 and should be on everyone’s go-to list for lighter, complex, and dangerously moreish South Australian reds. (Clear and Sober Counsel)
Made from 80-year-old Grenache vines, the 2016 Cirillo 'The Vincent' Grenache is a beautifully refined Barossa red wine that is vibrant and approachable, while still delivering impressive depth and length of flavour. Ideal for enjoying in the short to medium-term, this benchmark Australian Grenache offers exceptional drinking at this price.
"96 Points. A concentrated and deeply flavoursome Grenache from the sandy Vine Vale soils, this has attractive spicy red and purple berry fruits with some gently stony, almost flinty edges and hints of wild roasting herbs. The palate's beautifully fresh and lithe, really nicely honed in terms of tannin, and vibrant and succulent. Red-plum and dark-cherry flavours snap fresh through the finish. Superb wine. Drink now and for 10+ years."- Nick Stock, jamesuckling.com.
