Sangiovese is a grape that has a lot going for it. Think savoury, meaning it’s great with food; it has a cherry flavour which is a contrast to most other grapes we grow and it holds very good tannin structure. Its natural acidity means it always has an interesting and lively palate. However, if you really want to make this wine ‘sing’ it needs a little touching up with something else. In this vintage we reckoned a little dash of Shiraz did the trick. This is why we call it The Mongrel. The Shiraz added a hint of spice; it filled out the palate and it softened the tannins whilst keeping all the vitality of the Sangiovese.

Bright ruby red with a hint of violet. Rose water and violet characters are underpinned by red berry aromas of sweet cherry and fresh blue berries. Bright cherry and blueberry flavours carry onto the palate and combine with well integrated oak. The mouth feel is fine and delicate, supported by fine ripe tannins. Medium bodied in style with an elegant finish.

In beautiful condition and shape. It tastes beautiful. Raspberry, blueberry and blackberry, no alarms or surprises, complemented by woody spice and fine, smoky oak. Everything is where it should, and where you'd hope, it to be. 94 points James Halliday

Excellent - "...When young it typically shows fresh redcurrant, blackberry and espresso aromas, supple textures, underlying savoury notes and plenty of flavour length. With age it develops greater fruit complexity and buoyant richness." Langton's Classification of Australian Wine VI, 1 May 2014 Learn More

This wine is a delightful purple red colour. The nose is fabulous, dark plums, blackberries, blueberries, with a slight dusting of icing sugar, exotic spices, and a savoury earthiness all mingled together. The palate is not a let down it's absolutely delicious, that plummy blackberry fruit, mingled with dark raspberries, pure fruited, long and lively. It has a real creaminess to the palate, great length, and really really fine tannins on the finish. The oak is well in the background, leaving all that wonderful organic fruit to do the work.
Given all the above, the wine is actually wonderfully medium bodied, as this style should be. This wine tastes like it should be $30 or more a bottle, it's that good. It is easily the best all of this line yet, and should become your house wine. Gavin Trott

    Regular Price: $40.99

    Special Price: $39.99

Greenock Shiraz is deep purple-black in colour. Bright and lifted, the bouquet displays characters of blackberry, cherry, fruit cake, ripe plum, mocha and oriental spice. These ripe black fruit flavours continue to the powerfully flavoured full-bodied palate.
Driven by intense fruit purity, the palate is complimented with subtle oak barrel
characters. The natural tannins are lightly chalky but fine adding structure to support the strong fruit. With layers of complexity this is a very pure but sophisticated wine of great balance that is completed by a solid lingering finish. Greenock is a complex Barossa Shiraz that has a long cellaring future.

The wines seem a little more cloudy, but fine, as an observation. Raspberry rope, rhubarb and ginger and assorted exotic spices, new leather and floral perfume. Medium to full bodied, lovely fleshy chalky tannin and even acidity – mouthfeel is really enjoyable in its rustic unpolished style. Red berries and savoury meaty flavours with a long dry tannic finish. Shows a minor amount of warmth, but really no quibbles here.

A medium bodied wine that’s chewy and red fruited with a side of meat, Brazil nut and mint/licorice. It has dry tannin, a bit of tension and sinew, and good flow through the mouth, dipping slightly on the back palate, before running long and savoury on the finish. There’s a pleasant dried herbal bitterness and something like coffee beans, though they say ‘roast chestnut’ on the back label, and damn them for besting me. Classy. And something of a bargain.”Rated : 93 Points WInefront.com.au
