... It really needs a couple of years at least to show itself properly. It tastes of peanut shells, dark cherries, leather, anise, chinotto, various dried herbs. It’s juicy and well balanced but stern and tannic through the finish. I wasn’t sure at first; when I came back a couple of hours later, I was certain. This is fabulous value. And, given some time, will be terrific drinking. 91+ points WInefront.com.au

    Willow Bridge Solana Tempranillo 2012

    Regular Price: $28.00

    Special Price: $24.99

I must add as a post script, that I thought this wine was about $45, rather than $30. This means that you should buy some! I should too! Excellent – Outstanding / 94 points Sealed With Wax
Matured in used French oak, this is a cut above many tempranillos, with superfine tannins running through its mix of red and black cherry fruits providing excellent texture, structure and length. 94 points James Halliday

  3. Yelland & Papps Devote Shiraz Rousanne 2011

Yelland & Papps Devote Shiraz Rousanne 2011
    $33.00

$35; 13.5% alcohol; screw cap; 94+ points Phillip White - THIS wine just stole my tattered heart.
My first taste of a Shiraz Roussanne blend came in the form of d’Arenberg’s The Wild Pixie 2008. This has an even larger Roussanne component of 15% and it’s actually the better wine  ...  Flagrantly floral and outrageously perfumed. Purple fruits, anise, pepper, raspberry and a whole cornucopia of other fragrances. The white grape influence is not only apparent on the nose but also the palate which is silky and slippery with fine, drying tannin. It’s a crazy ride but an enjoyable one just the same. If John Waters made a wine this would be it. 93 Very Good Wine Will Eat Itself

  1. Yelland & Papps Second Take Grenache 2013

Yelland & Papps Second Take Grenache 2013

    Regular Price: $38.00

30% whole bunches were incorporated in the 10-day ferment, then taken to French oak (36% new) for 10 months; neither filtered nor fined; 14% Barossa Valley grenache; whole bunch fermentation. Yelland & Papps are certainly challenging the status quo, and doing so with great elan. This is awash with juicy red fruits, the finish bright and lively, rather than squashy; fruit, oak and acidity in absolute harmony.

  2. Jed Wines Argentina Malbec 2012

    Jed Wines Argentina Malbec 2012

    Regular Price: $19.99

    Special Price: $17.50

Bright ruby red with a hint of violet. Rose water and violet characters are underpinned by red berry aromas of sweet cherry and fresh blue berries. Bright cherry and blueberry flavours carry onto the palate and combine with well integrated oak. The mouth feel is fine and delicate, supported by fine ripe tannins. Medium bodied in style with an elegant finish.

  3. Woodlands Cabernet Franc Merlot 2012

    Woodlands Cabernet Franc Merlot 2012

47% Cabernet Franc, 46% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and how good are Woodlands wines at the moment? They are absolutely killing it. Raspberry, redcurrant, tobacco, aniseed and violet perfume, kiss of choc-vanilla oak along with some grassy varietal Franc notes. Medium bodied, fresh and red fruited – positively leaps through the mouth like those gazelles that go in and about clefts – grainy tannin controls and shapes, then there’s tight firm finish that runs pretty damn long. Mainly though, it’s just so good to drink. Vibrant and delicious.92+ points Winefront.com.au

mulberry flavours provide the fruit backbone along with hints of Asian spice, licorice, frangipani, almond paste and earth. It treads a focussed line with bright, sapid acidity and drive throughout its length.
A curtain of gentle ripe chalky tannin wraps up the proceeding as the wine trails off showing fine acidity and spicy red fruits. Delicious.

Blackberry, plum, a little nougat and coconut, chocolate. Classic modern Barossa with a nod to tradition. Medium to full bodied, round and supple with ultra-fine grained tannin fleshing out the palate and just-right acidity through its core. Long through the finish with a kiss of oak and perfectly ripe dark berry fruit. Textbook. Here’s the style of Barossa Shiraz that hits a chord with me.
Open string E, perhaps. Could rate it one higher, but won’t. It’s not one louder, it’s one better. 94 points. Winefront.com.au

It evolves and morphs in a gripping odyssey, leaping out of the glass with violets, exotic spice, black fruits and fresh liquorice straps, scaffolded around a mouth-embracing structure of wonderfully fine tannins.
If you must know, the best of 100% whole bunch cool climate shiraz (55%) meets 50% whole bunch pinot noir (40%) and a dash of sauvignon blanc (5%).
