Third vintage release of the affordable Calo tempranillo and it’s another goodun’. Value plus. It probably needs another 6-12 months in bottle but it’s bonza drinking once again. Glossy vanilla and bueberry. Soft. Has a bit of tannin to it. A bit of chew. Smoky, bacony, chicory length. Bloody good drinking. Gorgeously medium-weight and food friendly. 90 points Winefront

It has a brilliant crimson colour, and literally explodes in the mouth, intensely spicy yet savoury, red cherry and sour cherry each competing for space. ... Hard to imagine a better lunch wine.  94 points James Halliday Wine Companion

inevitable touch of dark chocolate; a strong spice character runs through the palate, originally with red pepper, ageing into green pepper; outstanding tannin management is the key to an exceptionally good wine, one of the magic touches being a late decision to include the mataro in the blend, making it a complete wine. 96 points James Halliday Wine Companion

    Elefante La Senda Tempranillo

    Regular Price: $15.99

    Special Price: $15.50

    As low as: $14.99

Elefante wines almost always rate high on the value scale. This is a good quaffing red. It tastes of red berries and dry, woody spices. It’s clean, juicy, and easy-to-drink. It doesn't have a lot of oomph but that’s not really the point and/or intent. Well polished. Winefront.com.au

Gran Sasso Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC (full case buy only)

Blood plum, nuts, licorice and some chocolate on a middle weight palate that delivers plenty of flavour along with attractive chewiness and freshness. The length is particularly impressive and closes with a desirable Italianate bitterness, like chicory or similar. Is it the best release of Gran Sasso to date? I suspect so. I defy you to find a more interesting, savoury wine with modest alcohol and food friendliness at the price. If you do, please let me know. It’s ever so slightly better than a 90 point wine ... Spicy and meaty with that ‘stony’ kind of feel that instantly makes me warm to a wine. Raspberry, floral notes and some darker fruit flavours lead into a medium bodied palate – almost Pinot-like in weight that pitches Australian fruit sweetness with Rhoney stony savouriness to create a thoroughly delicious drinking wine. It's fresh and vibrant with lightly stalky powder fine shaping tannin, and I have to mention it, peanut flavours. Clean and long on the finish. Yum. A delight.
