  1. Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2014

Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2014

    Regular Price: $34.99

    Special Price: $32.50

    As low as: $32.00

No one would disagree that Ata Rangi is one of the country's star producers. Crimson is Ata Rangi's second label for wine made from younger vines, ten to twenty years old. Lip-smackingly good now, it has marvelous complexity, especially for a "second" wine, with an engaging mixture of sweet and savory elements. Crimson reflects just how great a producer Ata Rangi is.

  2. Dog Point Pinot Noir 2014

    Dog Point Pinot Noir 2014

    Regular Price: $47.99

    Special Price: $46.00

    As low as: $45.00

This is the most triumphant Dog Point Pinot yet. I had to try this three times, coming back time and time again just to confirm whether it was ‘that good’ and my nose/mouth wasn’t deceiving me. Seriously concentrated, even in its absolute youth this looks spot on, all bright red fruit and a little stemmy sap on the nose. The palate is deep and surprisingly firm, entirely mouthwatering despite the low acidity, the long, spicy, sappy finish a masterpiece.

Central Otago be damned! Masterful and grown up Marlborough Pinot with a vitality that is unmatched. Interesting that this had me thinking about the brilliant Fromm Pinots when tasting this (which are some of the best Pinots in the region). Maybe it is the low acid and bright fruit? What a wine. Ready to go already as well. Yes. Best drinking 2016-2026. 18.7/20, 95/100. 14%, $35. Would I buy it? Oh yes. Would be nice to have a case of this hanging around the house.

  3. Garagiste Terre de Feu Pinot Noir 2014

Garagiste Terre de Feu Pinot Noir 2014

    Regular Price: $75.00

    Special Price: $68.99

    As low as: $65.00

Only 60 dozen produced. i.e. rare as hen’s teeth. The 2013 was a pearler. The 2014?

It’s even better. This is a magnificent pinot noir. I opened it late at night and immediately had to put it aside for the next day; it deserved better from me. This boasts the kind quality that makes you want to straighten your life out and be an improved person. It shines a light into you. It’s savoury, smoky, twiggy and powerful. It’s the earth risen up, the shirt of fruit torn open, the spice of life come to visit. It staggers with dryness, with herb, with smoke, a pathway of nutty oak branched between; but it slides with sour, ripe, succulent, satiny fruit.

Tannin spins a perfect web. It’s a spell that binds. It’s my kind of wine. It may not be yours. I don’t care. It’s what great wine does: it takes concerns and flings them into the fast-moving wind. Rated : 97 Points Winefront.com.au

  1. Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

    Regular Price: $34.99

    Special Price: $33.99

    As low as: $32.00

The first release of a new “Yarra Valley range” out of Giant Steps. This in the context that Giant Steps has sold the Innocent Bystander name (to Brown Brothers).

Hand picked, wild yeast, no fining or filtration. The winemaking doesn’t sound compromised, and nor does the shape and flavour of the wine in the mouth. It’s sour-sweet in a positive way, ripped with dry herbs and cherry-plum, with cranberry and crushed dry spice notes aplenty. It’s succulent, it’s tangy, it’s spicy and yet it’s firm and strong. It speaks of a top-notch vintage, and producer. Rated : 94 Points Winefront.com.au

    Greywacke Pinot Noir 2013

    Regular Price: $52.00

    Special Price: $47.99

    As low as: $46.99

Imagine a black forest gateaux made with marinated black cherries and very ripe blackberries, served with a little creamy vanilla custard. A highly perfumed style of Marlborough pinot featuring exotic fruit sweetness, a cedar-like spiciness and a delicate smoky scent reminiscent of lapsang souchong. The palate is dense and generous with ripe cherry-plum richness, some soft licorice and clove and a fine but voluptuous tannin structure.

  3. Hoddles Creek 1er Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

Hoddles Creek 1er Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

    Regular Price: $49.99

    Special Price: $47.00

    As low as: $46.50

The minute you put your nose to the glass you’re transported to the world of ‘fine wine’.
This has clarity, precision and fairly glides through the palate. Red cherry, raspberry, dried roses, fine spicy biscuitty oak, clean earthiness, and almost a liquorice root succulence too, but throughout its signature is restraint and subdued power. Ultra-fine tannin shapes the wine surely like the firm stroke of an emery board, the acidity so pure and clean, and the finish long, crisply ironed and perfumed. Australian Pinot Noir eh? “You’ve come a long way baby.”

    Le Chat Noir Pinot Noir

    Regular Price: $18.50

    Special Price: $17.99

    As low as: $17.00

Decent, quaffable pinot noir for under $20? It's almost impossible to find but this terrific value import from the south of France manages it ... “the best French Pinot Noir outside of Burgundy” .... It's on the riper side of the pinot spectrum, certainly no shrinking violet, but no brash bogan either. The (French) girl next door with smoothness, dark cherry fruit flavours, hints of earthiness and plenty of length. It can be found on special for as low as $15 but the RRP is $19.  Windsor Dobbin

Paringa Estate Peninsula Pinot Noir 2015

The Peninsula or 'PE' label represents the first tier in the Paringa Estate range. In recent years Paringa has renewed its focus in ensuring the Peninsula range over delivers on quality, this Pinot Noir is no exception.

The lifted wine offers briary fruit dominated by fresh cherries, blueberries and complexing nutmeg spice. The palate is full, flavorsome and long with evident fine tannins.

Light but bright crimson hue; a surprise packet with an indecent amount of complex varietal fruits. Cherry and plum engage in a duel to establish primacy, the referee coming in with spicy/ savoury tannins to give context to the contest – which ultimately remains unresolved.

    Small batch open-fermented and 10 months in French oak (25% new). The bouquet sings of red and black cherry, allied with twists of raspberry and oak, the palate effortlessly carrying on with the refrain of the bouquet;
has particularly good drive through to the finish and slightly savoury aftertaste.

Displaying complex aromas of raspberry, black cherry and mocha. The palate oozes opulent ripe cherry and blackberry over layers of mushroom with hints of truffle. The French oak barriques add ample but delicate tannins with an elegant mid palate delivering delightful length. Superb on it’s own or enjoy as an outstanding accompaniment to duck or game dish, alternatively mushrooms and pumpkin as a vegetarian option.
