    James Halliday's wine tasting note

The fragrant, gently spiced bouquet and palate are akin to a miniature painting, exquisite in its detail; complete harmony is the key to this wine, its length exceptional, extended by the forest berry/forest floor overlay on the finish.

.....This is a deep, dense, brooding pinot noir. Stephen George describes it as "robust" and I'd reckon that descriptor is particularly apt .... It's clearly one for those who favour, or are in the mood for, a gutsier rendition of pinot.' 89 points, Campbell Mattinson, winefront.com.au
"94 Points. This block is showcase solo for the first time. It excemplifies its warmer site in more muscle that the higher and cooler Ashton Hills' vineyard, making for a distinctive yet authentic and compelling comparison. 14%." - Tyson Stelzer, WBM September 2014.

Ashton Hills Pinot Noir Piccadilly Valley 'No.3' 2013

    Regular Price: $35.99

Revered Hills pinot master Stephen George put together two PV blends in this vintage to show one key block (Blend No. 1) as well as this 50:50 mix with his own estate; the result here more complete right now,
fragrant, balanced in earthiness, spice and darker cherry fruits, and the softer in texture. Delicious. 4/12 stars Top 100 wines

"96 Points. A coherent, effortless, seamless celebration of a great season of Pinot, uniting beautifully defined cherry and berry fruits with silky, finely textured tannins and refined poised acidity. 14%" - Tyson Stelzer
....... speaks with clarity of its single site origin; prodigious length, with red fruits and savoury nuances. 14% alc; screwcap. 95 points; drink to 2025; $86" - James Halliday, The Australian, July 26, 2014.
"95 Points. This is a gorgeous pinot noir.....an extra degree of concentration. It's full of tangy sweet-sour character with myriad herb and spice notes parading across. Sexy oak plays an unabashed role but no more than is appropriate to the depth and quality of the fruit. Sinewy, spicy, sizzling tannin draws out through the finish. Top notch at every turn." - 95 points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

  2. Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2013

Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2013

    Regular Price: $34.99

    Special Price: $30.00

No one would disagree that Ata Rangi is one of the country's star producers. Crimson is Ata Rangi's second label for wine made from younger vines, ten to twenty years old. Lip-smackingly good now, it has marvelous complexity, especially for a "second" wine, with an engaging mixture of sweet and savory elements. Crimson reflects just how great a producer Ata Rangi is.

  3. By Farr Farrside Pinot Noir 2013

By Farr Farrside Pinot Noir 2013

    Regular Price: $79.99

    Special Price: $77.99

    As low as: $74.00

Each vintage of Farrside pinot noir exhibits more masculinity, structure and savoury components, while deep meaty, spicy and mineral flavours also continue to evolve. A balanced array of red and black fruits, Farrside pinot noir is fresh and edgy with bucketloads of character. This is a firm yet delicate wine with a long-textured finish.

Review - "Started in on the new By Farr wines late last week before a cold/flu set in. The Farrside is as far as I got. Nick Farr refers to the 2013s as "crowd pleasers". This is a beauty. Seduction plus. Certified yum. Swish oak, spiced cherry-plum, exquisite integration of various savoury nuances and length to burn. It's rich and generous but firm and complex.
Its smoky, slinky, satiny mouthfeel is to die for. For sheer top-end drinkability; it's sensational. 96 points Winefront.com.au"

  1. De Bortoli Yarra Estate Grown Pinot Noir 2013

De Bortoli Yarra Estate Grown Pinot Noir 2013

    Regular Price: $30.00

    Special Price: $27.50

    As low as: $26.00

Grown on 20+ year old vines. Mix of estate vineyards. 20% whole bunches. Firm, spicy style. There’s nothing compromised about this. It's firm and savoury with sour, undergrowthy characters to the fore. Not sweet, not loose, not particularly easy-going. Cloves, pepper, crackles of dried leaf matter. A pervading nutty bitterness. It’s good now but it’ll be better again in a few years. 93+ points Winefront.com.au

  2. Eden Road Wines the Long Road Pinot Noir 2013

Eden Road Wines the Long Road Pinot Noir 2013

    Regular Price: $25.50

    Special Price: $24.00

Like Clonakilla and Ravensworth, Murrumbateman's Eden Road winery sources fruit from high, cool Tumbarumba. Pinot noir for The Long Road, says winemaker Nick Spencer, comes from the Courabyra and Maragle vineyards. Restaurant 86, Braddon, offers it by the glass, so we paired it happily with cured kangaroo fillets.
It's a lighter style pinot noir, featuring bright fruit, stemmy notes and fine, silky tannins. It offers fair value and points to Tumbarumba's potential with the variety. The area was originally planted in pinot for sparkling wine production. The transition to table wine-making demands the considerable changes to vineyard management now under way.      Decanter Wine Magazine 96 points - "Elegant with concentrated red cherry, violet, mixed spice and coffee flavours. Sweet fruit is balanced by fine tannins which help drive a lengthy finish. A taut, thoroughbred that needs time to unlock its obvious complexity. "
Smoky cherry, herbal complexity, spice, light creamy oak. Medium bodied, good flavour, savoury complexity, fresh raspberry and meaty spices, trimming fine acidity and light chalky tannin.
Fresh and long in the finish. Delicious, interesting wine. Rated : 93 Points Winefront.com.au
