  1. Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2014

Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2014

    Regular Price: $34.99

    Special Price: $32.50

    As low as: $32.00

No one would disagree that Ata Rangi is one of the country's star producers. Crimson is Ata Rangi's second label for wine made from younger vines, ten to twenty years old. Lip-smackingly good now, it has marvelous complexity, especially for a "second" wine, with an engaging mixture of sweet and savory elements. Crimson reflects just how great a producer Ata Rangi is.

De Bortoli Yarra Estate Grown Pinot Noir 2014

    Regular Price: $30.00

    Special Price: $27.50

    As low as: $26.00

"You have to wonder how they keep doing this kind of quality at this kind of price. The world will wake up to Australia's pinot/value offerings before long and blow the prices sky high; it's our duty to make hay now, while we can. This wine sets the pitch between savouriness, dryness and fruitiness to an exquisite level. It offers a riot of spices, cherries, smoke and herb notes and a rush of flavour to the finish." Campbell Mattinson, Wine Companion, August 2015 96 points

“In perfect shape and form. Sets the pitch between savouriness, dryness and fruitiness to an exquisite level. A riot of spices, cherries, smoke and herb notes rush through the palate and explode through the finish. Reductive notes work admirably in the context of the style/wine. Fantastic release.”James Halliday, James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2016, July 2015

  3. Eden Road Wines the Long Road Pinot Noir 2013

Eden Road Wines the Long Road Pinot Noir 2013

    Regular Price: $25.50

    Special Price: $24.00

Like Clonakilla and Ravensworth, Murrumbateman's Eden Road winery sources fruit from high, cool Tumbarumba. Pinot noir for The Long Road, says winemaker Nick Spencer, comes from the Courabyra and Maragle vineyards. Restaurant 86, Braddon, offers it by the glass, so we paired it happily with cured kangaroo fillets.
It's a lighter style pinot noir, featuring bright fruit, stemmy notes and fine, silky tannins. It offers fair value and points to Tumbarumba's potential with the variety. The area was originally planted in pinot for sparkling wine production. The transition to table wine-making demands the considerable changes to vineyard management now under way. 1. Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015

    Regular Price: $30.99

    Special Price: $28.99

    As low as: $28.00

The first release of a new “Yarra Valley range” out of Giant Steps. This in the context that Giant Steps has sold the Innocent Bystander name (to Brown Brothers).

Hand picked, wild yeast, no fining or filtration. The winemaking doesn’t sound compromised, and nor does the shape and flavour of the wine in the mouth. It’s sour-sweet in a positive way, ripped with dry herbs and cherry-plum, with cranberry and crushed dry spice notes aplenty. It’s succulent, it’s tangy, it’s spicy and yet it’s firm and strong. It speaks of a top-notch vintage, and producer. Rated : 94 Points Winefront.com.au

  2. Greywacke Pinot Noir 2013

    Greywacke Pinot Noir 2013

    Regular Price: $52.00

    Special Price: $47.99

    As low as: $46.99

Imagine a black forest gateaux made with marinated black cherries and very ripe blackberries, served with a little creamy vanilla custard. A highly perfumed style of Marlborough pinot featuring exotic fruit sweetness, a cedar-like spiciness and a delicate smoky scent reminiscent of lapsang souchong. The palate is dense and generous with ripe cherry-plum richness, some soft licorice and clove and a fine but voluptuous tannin structure.

  3. Hoddles Creek 1er Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Hoddles Creek 1er Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2014

    Regular Price: $49.99

    Special Price: $47.00

    As low as: $46.50
Pours a little cloudy in the glass, not that there’s anything wrong with that, just sayin’.

Cherries and raspberries, sap and spice, certainly has an autumnal lilt with humus and a gentle smokiness, and oak adds a layer of cinnamon and vanilla perfume. Medium bodied, mineral feel with firm slaty tannin, clean acidity, raspberry flavour and pencilly oak in support.
Finish is very good, with layers of tannin unfurling, and well etched acidity stretching it out. You can go for it now, but its best days are ahead of it. 95 points Gary Walsh Winefront.com.au

MB: Beautiful pale garnet colour. .....Superb. Flavours and aromas come with charisma of cherries, faint truffle, earth, light tobacco, but you go back for that palate feel, time and time again. Ludicrous price. Must buy. Must share. 93 points, 2016-2025+
GW: Pure raspberry fruit, with some cherry in support, spice, wet earth, pencils and an almost liquorice root perfume. Light to medium bodied, with a tense almost sinewy texture, mass of fine-point tannin, pencilly ‘mineral’ feel and the tannin and sweet damp earth singing on the finish. Can’t recall a better release of the Estate Pinot Noir. Incredible sophistication for its price. 94 points. 2018-2028+

    Le Chat Noir Pinot Noir

    Regular Price: $18.50

    Special Price: $17.99

    As low as: $17.00

Decent, quaffable pinot noir for under $20? It's almost impossible to find but this terrific value import from the south of France manages it ... “the best French Pinot Noir outside of Burgundy” .... It's on the riper side of the pinot spectrum, certainly no shrinking violet, but no brash bogan either. The (French) girl next door with smoothness, dark cherry fruit flavours, hints of earthiness and plenty of length. It can be found on special for as low as $15 but the RRP is $19.  Windsor Dobbin
