This wine, like the ‘HEAD RED Shiraz’ is essentially a de-classification of the ‘Old Vine’ Grenache. The mother vineyard (containing all 3 varieties) of the blend is 100 years old and from the sub-region of Greenock. Each component is fermented separately and given a shorter elevage in oak, resulting in more fruit definition and purity. A true Bistro wine style with red fruits, peppers, Asian spice, crisp acidity and a long chewy textural finish.  Minimal sulphur is used for the making of this wine and in general is only used in the last 2 months in barrel before bottling.

This wine is about freshness, purity of fruit, balance, texture and overall drinkability. I have always felt Grenache has lost popularity against varieties like Pinot because for too long it has been made like Shiraz. In 2012 it contained four, hand-picked old vine parcels from across the Barossa including vineyards in Krondorf, Tanunda, Light Pass and Stonewell all between 40 and 70 years old. The blend contains 85% Grenache (15% whole-bunches) 10% Shiraz from  Light Pass and 5% Mataro from Vine Vale and is elevaged in larger, neutral oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Sheer Burgundy in colour. Sweet musky florals of raspberry, white pepper spice and anise. The palate is plump, textured, medium bodied and carries sweet, red fruits, liquorice, and pepper through a finale of Grenache's warmth, finesse and silky tannins. Try this versatile wine on its own, 1 bottle at a time or with Pizza/Pasta. Drink now or up to 5 years. 14.5% Alcohol.
