.... it jumped out as irresistible. Not difficult to see why.  If you like the mainstay of Australian grenache, you will like this Spanish version. Sweet fruit, minerally tannin, dry finish. Gunsmoke. Obviously accessible but the fruit has character and class. Black and red licorice. Beautiful freshness. Energetic wine from go to whoa. You just want to drink it. Under $15? Excellent buying.  89 Points Screwcap Drink : 2013 – 2015 . Campbell Mattinson.  www.winefront.com.au
..... The big news is that it's even better than Spain's top-selling red wine in this country. It's an authentic and structured grenache which sets a dynamic contrast between blackberry, plum and liquorice fruit, subtle herbal complexity and firm, fine rustic tannins. This is declassified Campo de Borja from north-eastern Spain, not classified, because that would only make it more expensive.  90 points. Unusually savoury too. That's really really good. Slight balsamic notes add piquancy and edge, but don't necessarily intrude, though I'd rather they were not there. So much character and life to this wine.  94 points Winefront.com.au
Sophisticated architecture. Oak is a minor player, contributing to the texture but never obstructing the fruit. There’s a joie de vivre about the whole affair which is just impossible to deny. Longevity is pretty much assured. 94+ Excellent

Josh Raynolds, Vinous.com. 2014 Bekkers Grenache. "...a suave blend of depth and vibrancy..." 93pts.
Super rich, silky, ripe and saturated in flavor. This is an essence-like grenache that delivers attractive flavorsome red and dark berry fruits aromas with raspberry leaf and orange zest, hints of pomegranate too, nicely struck. The palate has assertive ripe summer berry fruit flavor, oak has been well played to add structure and sweet spice flavors. Tangy and succulent finish, liquorice to close. Nut-ripe tannins. 96 points Drink now and through to 2020. James Halliday’s winecompanion.com.au.

    Regular Price: $19.99

    Special Price: $18.99

Its aroma is less overwhelmingly floral – instead it has a more savoury meatiness, with an underlying minerality and structure that begs to be examined. On the palate it shows the same sweet fruit but it finishes magnificently dry, with savoury spices, hints of cinnamon, clove and bitter cocoa. The tannins are small and grippy but incredibly smooth, and combined with and long, drawing acidity give it great length and a superb finish.

It is a phenomenal wine for under $30 and should be on everyone’s go-to list for lighter, complex, and dangerously moreish South Australian reds. (Clear and Sober Counsel)

  2. Glaetzer the Wallace GSM 2014

    Glaetzer the Wallace GSM 2014

    Regular Price: $21.99

    Special Price: $19.99

    As low as: $19.00

Glaetzer Wallace takes on the traditional Barossa Valley blend of Shiraz and Grenache in a thoroughly modern way.

Overt dark cherry, cracked pepper anad raspberry notes are lifted and fragrant on the nose. Dark fruit lushness on the palate counterbalances a spicy suppleness and focus. Flavours of blackcurrant, blueberry and crushed spice provide depth and complexity. Very approachable in it's youth and will develop great complexity as it ages.

Sheer Burgundy in colour. Sweet musky florals of raspberry, white pepper spice and anise. The palate is plump, textured, medium bodied and carries sweet, red fruits, liquorice, and pepper through a finale of Grenache's warmth, finesse and silky tannins. Try this versatile wine on its own, 1 bottle at a time or with Pizza/Pasta. Drink now or up to 5 years. 14.5% Alcohol.

1 bottle 2012 Head Wines the Redhead Shiraz 2012
Dried mint, sage, oak, truffle, blackberry and raspberry – archetype of Eden Shiraz here. Dense, but medium weight, all blackcurrant and raspberry and dried mint. Clarity. Length. Such depth and finesse to the tannin. And the length, again, is worthy of a second mention. If you’re an Eden Shiraz fancier, you’ll be chomping greedily at the apple here.” – 96 Points Gary Walsh

2 bottles Head Wines the Ancestor Grenache 2014
Light to medium bodied, rippling with tone and muscle, funk and spice, slaty tannin and dryness, then that kiss of red fruits and perfume. It's pretty, and tough at the same time. Takes some time and effort to get to know, though certainly it's worth the effort. Quite outside the mainstream of Australian wine too, which is no bad thing. Real vinosity and verve. Think the score is more or less right. 96 points Gary Walsh Winefront.com.au"

  2. Head Wines the Old Vine Grenache 2014

Head Wines the Old Vine Grenache 2014

    Regular Price: $39.00

    Special Price: $37.50

    As low as: $35.00

The Barossa Old Vine Charter declares Old Vine to be anything 35 years or older. This is that, and more, being 73 years old and from a vineyard near Krondorf.  20% whole bunch and spent 12 months in a 20 year old 2500L foudre. So many numbers, and luckily they all add up to something great.

Sweet cherries and raspberry, spice, smoked meat, peanuts in their shells, dried flowers and a pleasant kind of sweatiness. Light to medium bodied, confusingly feels succulent and bony at the same time, has a gentle sweetness of red berry fruit, yet a dry stony texture to its fine grained tannin. Lovely clean length.
    Complex.
Light on its feet. Beautiful to drink. It’s how you make Grenache sing. 95 Points Winefront.com.au

In beautiful condition and shape. It tastes beautiful. Raspberry, blueberry and blackberry, no alarms or surprises, complemented by woody spice and fine, smoky oak. Everything is where it should, and where you'd hope, it to be. 94 points James Halliday

Excellent - "...When young it typically shows fresh redcurrant, blackberry and espresso aromas, supple textures, underlying savoury notes and plenty of flavour length. With age it develops greater fruit complexity and buoyant richness." Langton's Classification of Australian Wine VI, 1 May 2014 Learn More
