BEST CABERNET BLEND FOR 2012 - "...my top blend was the utterly delicious West Cape Howe 2011 cabernet merlot, with heaps of black and red fruits, a pinch of pepper and a touch of vanilla, all in a dashing medium-bodied style." - Jeni Port, Epicure, The Age 11 December 2012

90 Points Value: Value: Fantastic - "...this medium-bodied youngster has cabernet fruit suggesting blackcurrants, cedar, vanilla bean, eucalypt and mint. Piercing flavour..." Ralph Kyte-Powell, Epicure, The Age 15 January 2013

Mid crimson-purple; an elegant, juicy and harmonious wine, matured in new and used French oak, awash with bright, juicy, redcurrant and blackcurrant fruit supported by fine, silky tannins. Great drinking over the next 4-5 years, sooner if you wish. 93 points James Halliday

Medium crimson-purple; three east-facing blocks with minimal topsoil produced high quality cabernet grapes, and were picked early enough to preserve authentic black olive/forest notes to the central pillar of cassis fruit; the tannins are fine-grained, the oak well-integrated and balanced.

This is a very dark glass of juicy and delicious red. A burst of intense primary fruit greets the palate with blueberries, blackberries and currants. These powerful fruit notes can engulf the uninitiated, but waves of spice can be discovered by seasoned flavor explorers.

Bright hue; a tightly scripted exercise in precision, balance and length, its blackcurrant and spice fruit driving the fresh, medium-bodied palate; the varietal mix and sense of place occupy equal parts of the stage. 94 points James Halliday
... Medium bodied, firm in the mouth with open weave grainy tannin – tactile things they are – red and black fruit, tobacco and clear acidity. Love the slick of grainy tannin on the finish that marks it a more serious wine than you’re paying for. A terrific vintage for this wine.

  3. Woodlands Cabernet Franc Merlot 2012

    Woodlands Cabernet Franc Merlot 2012

47% Cabernet Franc, 46% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and how good are Woodlands wines at the moment? They are absolutely killing it. Raspberry, redcurrant, tobacco, aniseed and violet perfume, kiss of choc-vanilla oak along with some grassy varietal Franc notes. Medium bodied, fresh and red fruited – positively leaps through the mouth like those gazelles that go in and about clefts – grainy tannin controls and shapes, then there’s tight firm finish that runs pretty damn long. Mainly though, it’s just so good to drink. Vibrant and delicious.92+ points Winefront.com.au

Dark rich plum with a youthful violet hue. Lifted notes of cassis, plum and raspberries complemented with spicy oak. Intense berry fruits are accompanied by the powdery tannin and hints of cigar box and dark chocolate from the savoury oak. These rich, ripe characters give a great depth of flavour and linger on the finish.

  2. Hay Shed Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Hay Shed Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

The oak is background cedar which will reduce further as the fruits emerge with some bottle age. This vineyard consistently produces intense fleshy and full mid palate Cabernet with massive fruit weight with dark cherry and blackcurrant flavours. At the time of writing the wine is very youthful and tight but it still has ample fruit sweetness that will only become more accessible as the wine matures in bottle. This is a big full wine with ample flavour and concentration in the classic Margaret River tradition.

  3. West Cape Howe Bookends Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

West Cape Howe Bookends Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Exceptional cabernet from the Great Southern. So deep and dark in the glass. The aroma is pure concentrated cabernet essence showing such power and finesse. The palate has excellent structure with grainy tannins and fine grained oak supporting the opulent rich cabernet. Will keep on improving.  – 96 Points Ray Jordan. WA Wine Guide 2013
