Excellent fragrance, polish, guts and length. Ironstone, blood plums, smoky/musky oak. Thick chains of grunty tannin. Handsome wine. Flavour floods through the finish. Stories and ratings aside, this is my most preferred of the initial Eldorado Road offerings. 94 points Winefront.com.au

Straight Up Mataro, named after the Mataro vine’s vertical inclination, is a wine heady with floral herbs of kitchen gardens and elderflowers. A core of bramble fruits and blueberries hold it’s terrestrial, earthy characters and muscular structure.

The stunning Ébano Crianza is made from 100% Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto del Pais, with an average vine age of 20 years. It has a vibrant purple colour with intense fruit notes of ripe cherries, mulberries and raspberries. The wood is well integrated and keeps alive the earlier fruit as well as adding toasty aromas. Ébano 6 is made from 100% Tempranillo and spends 4 months in French oak. Great fruity structure, powerful finish.

has a strong and savory bouquet of mixed red and black fruit, lots of dried herbs and a dash of leather. Tasting the wine reveals jammy mixed berries, dried herbs, and some good prominent tannins. (Prominent, but not overdone by any means.) This is a very good, rich wine with some savory smoky notes. The finish is long, dry and spicy with a bit of mocha, some earthiness and a little dark berry. Viva la Monastrell!

really good. Varietal warm bitumen/dried fig/honey/black fruit Monastrell, with a juicy-jubey touch up from Syrah. Very silky with decent length and a nice tapered palate to a finish where the fruit tannins live.

A medium bodied wine that’s chewy and red fruited with a side of meat, Brazil nut and mint/licorice. It has dry tannin, a bit of tension and sinew, and good flow through the mouth, dipping slightly on the back palate, before running long and savoury on the finish. There’s a pleasant dried herbal bitterness and something like coffee beans, though they say ‘roast chestnut’ on the back label, and damn them for besting me. Classy. A jam-packed cranberry+field herb nose (red lavender anyone?) is perfectly struck - fresh fruit and earth, lift and depth ... The palate is perfumed, ovoid, lissom, and really harmonious - built beautifully on Telmo's trademark natural fruit tannin-acid twin-track. Juicy and deft, it's not just good and typical, nor merely delicious … this is spectacular wine for the $$
