This wine is incredibly exciting with a huge range of exotic florals and spices in the bouquet. I see hints of cinnamon or the richer cousin Cassia bark. Initially it has a broody dark berry tone and then lifts with some delicate floral notes like the roses grandpa used to obsessively tend; dark ruby rose. The palate explodes like the fruit of a pomegranate with a nice tang linking in with the gravelly tannins. It's like a locomotive on the palate, it keeps building steam. Great vitality and perfume! Bright red berry fruits on the nose with lots of spice and pepper and a hint of oak. Attractive rich red hue with a dark core. Earthy and deeply spiced the Dog Strangler is saturated with deep, ripe dark plum and mulberry fruits with a hint of red cherry lift. Plenty of lavender, dried rosemary, hung game-meats, musk and white pepper. The palate is well weighted with plenty of texture and fruit flavour’s of ripe, plum, blackfruit’s, mulberry and cherry. As to be expected there are the rich savoury and spicy aspects that we love from this variety in abundance. Nutmeg, Dutch licorice and a great earthy weight. Third vintage release of the affordable Calo tempranillo and it’s another goodun’. Value plus. It probably needs another 6-12 months in bottle but it’s bonza drinking once again. Glossy vanilla and bueberry. Soft. Has a bit of tannin to it. A bit of chew. Smoky, bacony, chicory length. Bloody good drinking. There's a sense of extra generosity and ripeness in this release. Beautiful perfume, draws you into the glass, one to sniff on long and with pleasure. Rose hip tea, raspberry, pot pourri, sandalwood. More roses than tar. It's a succulent wine, mouthwatering in acidity, floods the palate with sweet-ripe berry fruit flavours, exits with a lingering build of bergamot tea-like tannin. Just over medium weight. I can’t recall where the old vine single vineyard is, but let’s just assume it’s somewhere nice. Spice with a distinct top note of shrubbery and stalk, some floral notes, juicy cherry and raspberry flavour. Medium bodied, attractive grainy tannin and balanced acidity keeps it all trim, and the finish is firm, long and punctuated with a pleasant twist of stalkiness. Certainly has some of that Pinot Noir of the Barossa about it, which is nice. Winefront.com.au Rated : 93 Points Learn More

Great colour, was the first comment out of my mouth. Pale garnet with bronze edge. Lovely. Very savoury perfume hit with cherry juice and pomegranate. Shows clove and white pepper. Palate has this transparent wash of sour cherry fruit and a sheath of very fine, firm, chewy tannins. Ethereal but tightly wound. Very lovely feel here, a very good wine indeed." Fine and polished nose - floral, figgy and gently meaty, it's a delicate and perfectly varietal expression of Monastrell. Soft, wide tannins start the mouth off and a long rip of ripe acid in the back half really straightens things out. Wine worth crowing about. Mountain herbs, graphite, peppercorn and spice notes come at least in lock-step, if not ahead of, blackberry and plum, leather and earth flavours. It’s different, in a good way. It’s fresh and complex, more-ish and highly engaging. Weight doesn’t really come into it but there’s more than enough here. Ultimately this a triumph of a wine. Exactly what you’d want for young Grenache, with this impossible red fruit plumpness, the alcohol not excessive, the tannins welcome. It’s not meant to be a wine for the long term, but it’s got the guts to be convincing. Win. Best drinking: Now to ten years. 18/20, 93/100. 13.8%, $35. Would I buy it? It’s fresh but dense, cherry and hazelnut with a spray of dried herb, lovely bright flavour, a bit of chewy tannin, clean acidity, and a long fresh and savoury finish, that tannin cleaning up nicely. This is tight, unforgiving, very dry red, with powerful, persistent, fine-grained tannin that sets the whole mouth puckering for tucker. It is not, what you say, fruit driven, or juicy. But feed it pure spaghetti bolognaise, or paste with lots of black olive and fresh herbs, and you're away. It will cellar for a decade." Philip White - Adelaide Advertiser Learn More

Sicily can be such a happy hunting ground for wines that combine drinkability, interest and good value. There’s three ticks here. This is savoury and minerally, but lush with dark cherries, spice, floral top notes, and maybe a few of the old cheeky black jellybeans. Love the smooth silty tannin, pitch perfect acidity, and the light spiciness to finish. It’s only just medium bodied, almost delicate for a Nero, but gee this is good drinking. A very attractive pale dark pink. Has gorgeous cherry fruit aromas with light floral notes. Has delicate, fresh cherry fruit flavours on the palate with a hint of spice and savoury characters. This wine has a beautiful palate weight and great mouth feel; it has a lovely textural quality while still having a dry finish with the tiniest hint of tannin astringency.
