Quick Overview

“One of Marlborough’s most refined estates just got finer. Magic happened when the idyllic 2010 season met these mature, low-cropped estate vineyards. A winemaking philosophy that prizes texture above flavour, and a lower proportion of new oak than ever, have produced one of the region’s finest chardonnays. It’s lively, honed and poised, with a lemon blossom lift and a fine, taut, textural, mineral-infused palate that lingers long. Drink 2015-2022.” 95 points Tyson Stelzer, Wine Taste, Edition 55

Product Description

Straw green Exhibits ripe grapefruit, roasted nuts and toasty aromas together with intense yeast characters derived from contact with yeast lees. Palate Full bodied with intense citrus flavour, the palate is finely structured and shows chalky nutty texture as a result of the indigenous ferment and extended yeast contact. Straw green, with lifted aromas of grapefruit, fresh lime and a degree of minerality combined with roasted hazelnuts and toasty yeast characters derived from eighteen months evolution in French oak barrels. The finely structured palate has a chalky textural complexity, as a result of an indigenous ferment and yeast lees contact, complimented by intense citrus and fig flavours.

"The highlight wine in this year’s release was the Dog Point Marlborough Chardonnay 2010 (19.5-/20), fermented to 14.0% alc. and aged 18 months in French oak, a small portion of which were new. The wine was given extende lees contact.  Brilliant straw-yellow colour with green-gold hues, this has a concentrated and dense nose, packed with citrus fruits and powerful complex reduction aromas fully interwoven with the fruit.  However, redeemed by superb, vibrant citrus fruit with great concentration and energy, the fruit complexed by layers of toast, nuts and flint that build on the palate.  The acidity is bracing, and provides lusciousness and liveliness, adding to the obvious potential.  Toasty oak is prominent on the finish, with warmth and great length.  This will keep 5-6+ years" Raymond Chan
