  1. Alessandro e Gian Natale Fantino Rosso Dei Dardi 2015

Alessandro e Gian Natale Fantino Rosso Dei Dardi 2015

    Regular Price: $33.00

    Special Price: $31.99

    As low as: $30.00

This is a primal, untamed expression of pure Nebbiolo fruit

Dark cherry, liquorice, violet and dried rose perfume. Medium bodied, fleshy and ripe, with layers of meaty and silky tannin, clean acidity, and an almost bubblegum perfume in the aftertaste. It's good fun now, though I reckon it will be much better with a couple of years in the cellar to let it settle down. What a bargain!

Benevelli Piero Langhe Nebbiolo 2015 Number 3 Pack

    Regular Price: $33.00

    Special Price: $24.99

It’s a very young and slightly raw wine, and while it’s probably meant to be enjoyed young, I’d either throw it into a decanter for a couple of hours, or pop it in the cellar for another couple of years: it makes a big difference. Anyway, as at now, it’s red fruited and perfumed, showing some sweet aniseed and spice, along with a whiff of new leather. Medium bodied, brightly lit and vibrant, with red cherry and red berry flavours, light chalky tannin, and a long gently sweet finish that’s perfumed and very fine. Remarkable wine for the money. 93+ points Winefront.com.au

There’s talk that 2015 is one of the best vintages in Piedmont for quite some time, and that 2016 is even better. Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”

Black cherry, liquorice root, baking spices and potpourri. Medium bodied, supple and fleshy, almost juicy, then the Nebbiolo tannin extends its friendly and reassuring grip, slips in some savoury stuff like new leather, and closes with perfume and strong black tea flavour and texture. It needs some time in the decanter as a youngster, but still delivers
a gorgeous hit of affordable Barbaresco should you fancy going in early. Rated : 93 Points Winefront.com.au

Interesting wine, in a good way. Smells of honeycomb, spice, sweat, dried herbs and rich dark berries. Medium bodied, rich fleshy texture with plump tannin, plum, dried cherry and sarsaparilla flavours, clean acidity and a savoury and fruit sweet finish of good length.

    Regular Price: $13.99

Pinot Grigio grapes. Stainless steel vinification. From north facing mountain vineyards in Abruzzo. This Pinot is rich in fruit yet balanced with good acidity and long racy finish. Round, ripe apple and pear fruits on the palate. Clean and bright, try with chicken, fowl, grilled fish and light antipasti. Try with light fare and delicate fish preparations or on its own as a perfect aperitif. Learn More

The perfume gives you a hint, in a way, with cinnamon and earth-dusted ripe red fruit character and a hint of dried herbs. Ripe and generous as the fruit is, it's a compelling drink, layered in flavour and generous without being overbearing. It finishes with a dusty lick of pucker and a tickle of briny acidity. It's lovely to drink, but structurally is quite loose-knit.
    Enjoyable. 92 points Winefront.com.au

Mandoleto Nero d'Avola Terre Siciliane (Case Buy)

    Regular Price: $15.00

    Special Price: $13.50

Black jellybeans stuffed in leather pants, dark cherry, iron filings, damp earth, sweet dried herbs. Medium bodied, clean acidity, cherry and blackcurrant, light but grainy chalky tannin and pretty decent length. A little gamey, perhaps, but such a good drinking wine.
    Recommended unconditionally. Drink now.

....  the palate is a lively mix of berries and savoury tannins with lively acidity. Not surprisingly it’s easy to drink with a spicy imprint on the finish. Another impressive import with bags of bright personality that begs for food. WiningPom

a classic vintage throughout much of Europe and Veneto was no exception. The vineyards began with excellent soil moisture levels and the vines responded well to ideal spring conditions before a very warm, dry summer slowed growth and limited yields. A warm , clear Autumn provided excellent ripening but crucially cool nights ensured the retention of naturally acidity. The wines are surprisingly fresh and aromatic with excellent depth of flavour.

Pale and delicate in colour with subtle citrus and floral aromas. The palate is elegant and delightfully fresh with delicate citrus and tropical flavours building to notes of ripe pear matched by soft mineral acidity before a dry finish.

    Passopisciaro Etna Rosso 2013

Bright red fruits like strawberry and raspberry, dusted with pepper, earth and ferrous character right through its core, fine gravelly tannin, punchy fresh acidity, and again freshness and a lick of kitten’s tongue tannin on a long finish. When you leave it in the glass for a while, some liquorice richness comes through.
Has the lightness of Pinot Noir, and the grip of Barbaresco, but of course it’s just really good Nerello Mascalese. From Mount Etna. 95 points Gary Walsh Winefront.com.au

A rich, dark and mellow Sicilian red with cherry and blueberry fruit, framed by cedar and gently spicy oak. Vibrant and juicy with good length.

No review available yet, below is the review of the previous vintage, the 2014! I think the 2015is better, but not yet reviewed.

"I picked up a bottle of this in a supermarket while on holiday. I’d not seen it before. It was one of those Japanese supermarkets where everything looked either exciting or frightening or both. Once spotted, I didn’t hesitate. Had no idea what an appropriate price is, or indeed what it’s quality would be like.

If you see this in a shop anywhere; clear them out. It’s a beautiful, intriguing, tangy, sweet-but-serious wine at a snip of a price. Buy a dozen. Buy two. It’s rusty and redcurrranty, redolent of ripe raspberries, fractionally herbal and chalky but lively, scented, structured, the kit and the caboodle. It’s light and it’s lovely. $20-ish? I’m in." Rated : 92 Points Winefront.com.au
