96 Points - James Halliday - Seppeltsfield DP90 Rare Tawny has reigned supreme on the Australian wine show circuit for over 30 years and as the most awarded wine of any style is rightfully regarded as the benchmark Australian Tawny. Fruit from extremely low yielding Barossa Valley vines is given extended maturation in small oak casks at Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley before careful blending to create a wine with incomparable levels of finesse, complexity and length.
Learn MoreA little bottle of deliciousness. I don't score, but if I did, I'd give this 96/100. Rating: 96 Points; Winsor Dobbin, Wine of the Week, January 2013.
... an extremely luscious brandy snap, cumquat, nut and tea palate. This is seriously old material; 375 ml; Rating: 94 Points; James Halliday
... it's refreshingly vibrant, balanced and without any hint of cloying sweetness. Rating: 96 Points; Tyson Stelzer; Wine Taste
One of the Barossa's greatest gifts is its unique collection of fortified port and sherry style wines. This 30 year old (average age) pedro ximinez is sensational, essentially an amontillado sherry with emerging nutty, caramel, apricot and raisin characters, bergamot and racy acidity remaining. Rating 5 stars Tony Love
A pronounced rancio character is also evident, derived from extended oak maturation. In a squat, heavy base, clear glass bottle; a very substantial step up the quality tree, the dried fruit/Christmas cake flavours perfectly balanced by gentle rancio. This is a wine which leads you on and on. Average age 10 years; 500 ml. Screwcap. 19.1% alc. Rating 93 James Halliday
