t’s a wine with genuine fruit purity that is then complemented by a range of spice; wild fennel, aniseed and a dollop of harissa. In the background there are scents of sweet wet clay on a potter’s wheel. I then smell the occasional waft of smoke that swirls around a pile of dried kelp. The flavours are full but fresh with the fruits of mulberry, blueberry and Satsuma plum. It has darkness and restrained power.

This is a restrained style of Australian Chardonnay and highlights how far we have come with this style of wine over the last decade.

a complex mixture of ripe blackberry and plum fruit with a dash of creamy vanillin oak. The palate is medium to full bodied which starts with some sweet plummy fruit, the flavour then builds in the palate to provide an explosion of raspberry flavours. There is some lovely mouth coating tannins which combine with dark chocolate oak and fruit to provide a great depth and length of flavour.
