  1. Linnaea Wines ''Trifulau' Barolo 2010

    Linnaea Wines ''Trifulau' Barolo 2010

    Regular Price: $64.99

    Special Price: $54.99

I appreciate the time spent getting to know this wine.  It's reserved but ever-so intriguing. Ethereal. Over the four days I had it open it unveiled more sour plum, red liquorice and dark tarry characters with a persistent juicy acidity that remained throughout.  Brooding and bright.  Dark and shiny.  Fascinating contrasts. A grown-up style of wine deserving of a few hours in the decanter, a big plate of char-grilled lamb cutlets and a not-quite-long-enough night of engrossing conversation." Wine Punter.com.au

.... Throws a wondrous perfume of liquorice root, chocolate and dark cherries with rose oil wafting above, bottom firmly ensconced on the sweet folds of an old Chesterfield lounge. And gloriously traditional it is too - firm and sure in the mouth with a spread of fine grained tannin allied to just the right amount of dark fruit, tea and spice.  Has a vivacious yet fleshy finish of good length with a ring of clear acidity. Significantly good value, considering. 94+ points Gary Walsh Winefront.com.au"

  2. Bodega Zapata Catena Malbec

    Bodega Zapata Catena Malbec

    Regular Price: $26.00

    Special Price: $24.50

A blend of four vineyards - vineyards are divided into lots that are harvested at different times. Ripe plum fruit flavors and silky texture. Dark fruit character, dense mid-palate and pepper notes. Black cherry aromas and excellent structure. Explosive floral aromatics and full, concentrated mouthfeel.
International Wine Cellar -  91 points - Bright red-ruby. Raspberry, licorice and fig aromas lifted by sexy oak tones. Vinous and refined on the palate, with dark raspberry, currant and fig flavors complicated by a saline nuance. Nicely balanced and not at all overly sweet. ... Finishes with firm, fine, building tannins and excellent length.

It’s actually added sauvignon blanc to the front label (and of course to the wine). The style of this wine is to be applauded. It’s just so dry and briny. And textural. It impresses by understatement as much as anything. Crisp and fresh, sure, with herb and brine flavours the main players. There’s a musky note to the finish, which is well sustained. Great seafood style. 90 points Winefront.com.au

Meaty, smoky approach. Clean and savoury yet hit with good fruit too. Dry licorice. Spicy finish. Clean, unforced, tangy length. Brilliant value, all things considered. You could take this anywhere. And that, really, is the raison d’etre of this brand. 88 points WInefront.com.au

The colour commands attention, and you don’t drink with your eyes. The scents from the glass are muted, quiet, briar and forest berries, lathed sandalwood, deep but also fresh. A gorge with a spring in the bottom. That freshness to taste; more anise here, succulent acidity and supple tannins – the weight of the wine would sit in medium-bodied for Barossa from a warm, moderate year like 2012, with bright fruit, a dusting of spice and a thin veil of mouth-coating sweetness. It’s really delicious, but the firming pucker through the finish says time will also augur well.

The perfume gives you a hint, in a way, with cinnamon and earth-dusted ripe red fruit character and a hint of dried herbs. Ripe and generous as the fruit is, it's a compelling drink, layered in flavour and generous without being overbearing. It finishes with a dusty lick of pucker and a tickle of briny acidity. It's lovely to drink, but structurally is quite loose-knit.
    Enjoyable. 92 points Winefront.com.au

  1. Tyrrells Hunter Valley Chardonnay 2014

    Tyrrells Hunter Valley Chardonnay 2014

    Regular Price: $20.00

    Special Price: $19.00

    As low as: $17.99

Peach, mixed citrus, gentle vanilla and cedar oak and some wheatgerm.Medium bodied, juicy fruit, but with some restraint,  limey acidity offset with a dab of cream and almond. Good length. Acid freshens the aftertaste, but does not twang.
This is nicely done: meets the modern and traditional schools of Hunter Chardonnay in the middle playground.  90 points Winefront.com.au"

.....You can smell the perfect ripeness from first whiff, with banana oak and yeast characters over a surprisingly taut palate. It's not particularly complex, and there's a little warmth on the finish, but otherwise it's just a lovely Chard for anyone into the more medium bodied, mod-Hunter style.
For $20 this is Goldilocks Chardonnay.  Score: 17.7/20, 92/100
Would I buy it? Yes. This would be a shining star on an pub wine list. Andrew Graham Australian Wine Review

Nice wine this – feels like essence of Hunter Valley Shiraz. Medium bodied with savoury tannins drawling through the wine. Offers up red fruits, dustiness but not too much, and light, washy acidity keeps things fresh. It might lack some stuffing but it’s pitch-perfect as an example of Hunter and drinkability with savouriness. Crunch and chew in the finish lends a hand.

It’s medium bodied, peppery and meaty, with bramble fruit of subtle sweetness and the perfume of wild scrub herbs. Tannin is light and gently chalky, acidity is well played and the finish is pretty long and fresh.
Lovely to drink. Gulp even. 90 points Winefront..com.au
