Quick Overview

"........This is very full-bodied the power and concentration deriving from the high quality vineyard, not excessive extraction in the winery, nor even new oak. It has a spring in its step, with spice and dark licorice threaded through blackberry." 95 points, James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au
"Bold deep colour gives you a clue as to what's going to happen next. Blackberry, spice, dark chocolate, salty liquorice, dried roses?. Full-bodied, dense and throaty, fine mesh of tannin, raspberry pip acidity and flavour, some more meaty and earthy things, and a long dry finish. Finds balance between heft and grace. It's a fine expression of Barossa Shiraz." 94 points, Gary Walsh, winefront.com.au

Product Description

Moppa Hill is one of laughing Jack?s most prized vineyard sites and is already well known for its Old Vine Grenache and Moppa Block Shiraz (Block 4). 2012 Moppa Hill Shiraz is an inaugural release and is sourced from Block 6 on the Moppa Hill property.

Block 6 is situated below Block 4 and therefore located lower on the eastern slope between 353m to 365m above sea level. This 6 acre vineyard is hand pruned, handpicked and managed using sustainable viticulture methods. This site has classic Moppa sandy soil with plenty of iron stone fragments. It is a very low yielding vineyard helping to create wine with purity of fruit a silky texture and layers of complexity. Shawn Kalleske raised this for 16 months in 100% tight grain French oak hogsheads and puncheons (40% new), and the wine was bottles unfiltered.

Dark core with a vibrant crimson red rim, an enticing nose of fruit purity leaving you with a sense of place in the Moppa Hill vineyards.  Mulberry, elderberry, cherry and blueberry dominate with undertones of cinnamon, cloves, violets and subtle white pepper.  A luscious and dense palate with great structure and purity of fruit that carries throughout the palate. The acidity is perfectly balanced with the pristine flavours, silky texture and fine grain tannins.

This is an intense and savoury Barossa red with dark plum, anise and violet-noted fruit complexed by cedary oak. It's a powerful yet savoury wine, with plenty of sappy freshness from the tannins. The finish is long and fragrant. Again, it is a terrific value.

"Whole berries open-fermented, 14 days on skins, 20 months in 80% French (12% new) and 20% American hogsheads. This is very full-bodied the power and concentration deriving from the high quality vineyard, not excessive extraction in the winery, nor even new oak. It has a spring in its step, with spice and dark licorice threaded through blackberry." 95 points, James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au
