Produced in honour of the Riebke Brothers, whose support has been instrumental in the success of Teusner Wines. An honest and affordable wine displaying regional expression of the Ebenezer sub region. This Northern Barossan Shiraz is intensely deep in colour with rich chocolatey fruit and hints of spice on the nose. The palate is full and fruit driven, gaining complexity from it's time in older french and american hogsheads. The long full finish will leave you reaching for another bottle - Lucky it's so affordable!!!
Pity that this can no longer be labelled ‘Ebenezer’ - thanks to the blinkered thinking of some of the big wine companies; it’ll turn out to be a small victory over one of their neighbours in a global war that they’ll lose. Promotion of sub-regionality helps everyone; snuffing it out hinders everyone.
If you liked the 2007 you will certainly like this. It’s thick with flavour. It tastes raspberried, meaty, coal-like and fragrant, and it manages to combine serious dark flavour and shape with effortless drinkability. Excellent length too. Maybe a touch on the sweet side but hey, it tastes gorgeous. 92 Points Winefront.com.au
Impressive colour; rich, ripe and pure, with a plummy Christmas cake bouquet; light on its feet despite its apparent ripeness; juicy, vibrant rich and long, showing the strength of Barossa shiraz without too much oak. Screwcap. 14.5% alc. Rating 94 James Halliday Wine Companion
Winning the medal for best young winemaker at the 2007 Winemaker of the Year Awards suggested the potential that Kym Teusner has since realised, especially with his grenache blends, Albert Shiraz, and some of the stunners released under his Astral label. Frankly, few things delight more than Teusner’s ability to produce great-value shiraz. Fragrant raspberry and blueberry characters, ripe blackberry and chocolate flavours, generous fleshy texture and pleasing approachability make for gluggable Barossa shiraz. PF Gourmet Traveller Wine
