Product Description
This rich black Shiraz has hints of chocolate, pepper, menthol and tobacco leaf on the nose. Plums, blackcurrant and spice flavours on the palate and are perfectly balanced by fine, supple tannins. Matured in French oak hogsheads. (Heartland notes)
Wow, purple black and red, deep colour on this young wine. The nose is powerful, dark black and red berries and cherries, with exotic spices, plums and herbs, a whiff of mint and white pepper, touches of beefstock - a big nose of dense fruits with a ripe core. The palate does not disappoint, its seriously delicious! As with the previous vintage the mouthfeel is velvety with great viscosity, and the wine is very long and intense with a trace of herbs on the finish! The nose is echoed on the palate, rich and ripe fruit flavours mingling with hints of liquorice and touches of chocolate, the fruit power masking a little more (ripe) tannins on the finish than the 2004. Delicious glassful of young wine, with cellaring potential! Better at this stage than the 2004 was, and that takes some doing!! In stelvin too, which is fantastic! Jump in, you can't get better value than this in red wine currently!!! Auswine tasting panel notes
"Made by the highly regarded Ben Glaetzer and matured in French oak hogsheads (larger oak barrels than usual). It's been a highly successful brand since its launch a handful of years ago - and deservedly so.
The 2008 release has a robust honesty about it. No tricks, just dark, rich, warm fruit. Tastes of peppermint, sweet fruit (plums, cherries and raspberries), pipe tobacco, a touch of pepper and a whiff of vanilla. It feels slightly desiccated - if you try hard you'll find flavours of salted beef here - but it still manages to fully satisfy. Excellent winter drinking. Will impress all comers. Drink 2010-2013." 91 Points Big Red Wine Book
