Quick Overview

...Fragrantly scented, tightly structured and finely poised - this wine shows the more reserved, feminine face of the Barossa. Delicately portioned and beautifully balanced its fragrant notes of flowers, creme de cassis and blackberry are supported by an underlying swell of black pepper, cocoa and minerals. Supple, smooth, intense, balanced and very very long and without any hint of over ripeness, its ease of drinking and current enjoyment should not limit what is a very good cellaring future. Really classy and individual wine, such as should be made more often in the Barossa Valley. A beauty. Gavin Trott.

Product Description

Very rare to find such superb quality wines in half bottles! Brilliant wine, for one!

From a single vineyard in Stonewell where the soil is sandy loam over a limestone base (blonde in colour). Always showing perfume and jube-like blue fruits, this vineyard crops naturally at around 1.5 tonne to the acre. The final blend contained 1% co-fermented viognier for colour, lift and vibrancy. I use wild yeasts from the vineyard during fermentation to help convey the true character of the vineyard in the wine.

I used two separate fermentation styles to compliment the fruit and vintage, bringing them together after a year in barrel for another 3 months of aging before bottling. The final blend contains 2.5% co-fermented viognier which traditionally is quite visible during this first year in bottle.  Small amounts of carefully selected New French oak have created the more drinkable, forward reputation 'The Blonde' has earned.

Floral, fruit driven nose of plums, mullberry, strawberry and lavender with mild cedary and maple notes. The entrance is round, soft and full of sweet glycerols, red jelly crystals, blue fruits typical of Stonewell and more dark plums. The fruit sweetness seems to encase the tannins and lull you towards early consumption. Drink 2010-2025.
