Perfumed bouquet of lifted spicy, dark berry fruit with briary notes. A complex and elegant palate displaying flavours of raspberry, blackberry and dark cherries with a hint of spice. The tannins are fine, layered and silky and integrate seamlessly with nuances of cedar and vanillin from maturation in the finest French and American oak.
The 2014 Shiraz features exceptionally pure fruit flavours with summer berry fruit on the nose and palate, integrated with hints of cedar and vanillin derived from sensitively managed French and American oak. The tannins are fine, complex and silky and linger on the palate. Reflective of the exemplary 2012 vintage, this wine is very much a “cool climate” style of Shiraz.
Hand-picked in batches between 26 Feb and 18 Mar, destemmed for whole berry fermentation, with 1.5% viognier co-fermented, 13 days on skins, then pressed to French (88%) and American (12%) oak (34% new), matured for 11 months in barrel with further maturation in tank. A classy, complex shiraz with an intense bouquet and a persistent palate of blackberry, licorice and briar. The low level of tannins means (paradoxically) the wine is a now or later proposition. 94 points James Halliday
