Welcomed winter rains replenished sub-soil moisture. Other than a spike of hot weather in November, the growing season was very mild and harvest weather perfect. Below average crops and cool weather resulted in intense flavours and high natural acidity. An excellent vintage!
Hand picked. Cool fermentation in stainless steel. Short maturation on lees. Early bottling to retain freshness. Bright and aromatic with notes of grapefruit, nashi pear and nettles. On the palate there is intense flavour with fresh, limey fruit, mouthwatering acidity and remarkable purity.
James Halliday 96 Points ..... This is a dignified sauvignon blanc that continuously reveals itself as you move from the bouquet through to the aftertaste of the palate. Initially it has classic restraint, but by the time you pick up the sweet fruit (not sugar) you realise it's the product of a vintage designed for sauvignon blanc.
Tony Love ...... The recognition and respect this wine garners is incredible, so when winemaker Martin Shaw humbly suggests this is one of the finest vintages he can remember, take note. The style has moved now to definite citrus and drilling down to pink grapefruit characters, here also rose petal and camomile tea notes, a delicate coat of powdery pith in the mouthfeel. It’s pretty with a delicious light spice that shimmers with natural acidity, and is most pleasing to splash alongside yum cha style dishes. 4.5 Stars Adelaide Advertiser, 08 August 2018
