Dark red almost black in colour. Aromas of rosemary, thyme, bay leaf, insense, blue fruits, cola and tar. Medium to full bodied, sweet fruited with mulberry, aniseed, bitter chocolate bullets and sweet tannins. Strikingly individual style of old Eden Valley clone Shiraz. Drink now or up to 15 years. 14.0% Alcohol.
Colour is deep red to black. The nose shows intense aromas of rosemary, sage, menthol, fennel, cured meats, blueberry and blackcurrant. The palate shape is typical of Eden Valley being a little more linear with elegant blue fruits - less flesh than the Barossan twins! Sweet, moreish, dense tannins completely saturate the mouth, resulting in incredible length of fruit and flavour. Drink with slow cooked Lamb - rosemary not essential. Unfined & Unfiltered. Alc 13.8%. Drink 2014-2034. Decant for 1 hour minimum.
The oldest vineyard source for the Head Wines – 54 year old vines in Greenock – but also the least expensive. Includes 10% Mataro in the mix. Grilled steak with pepper, herbs de Provence, almost a violet thing going on, black fruits, iron filings. Medium bodied, distinctly ferrous and meaty, almost bloody, seasoned with salt and herbs, streaks of gummy tannin, clean acidity, all that meat, blackness and herb on the finish.
Dare I say it, the Rhône expression of Shiraz from Heady?
