Quick Overview

Hand-picked from the top of the block, 50% whole bunches, 50% whole berries, including small parcels of carbonic maceration. Excellent colour; has more texture to the palate than Project No. 2, and is more elegant. A Socratean style (Socrates dissatisfied). The dried herb/spice nuances add something No. 2 lacks, but that's not the end of the story. Two very different and accessible wines."
96 points, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion edition 2017;

Product Description

[Winemaking the same as the No. 2] This is certainly our finest release of this wine to date. Whereas the 2012 was quite closed at the same stage, this 2013 is already quite seductive, flaunting the quality of the vintage, but also of our winemaking evolution. Every year our understanding of how to handle this site has increased, i.e. we could not have made a wine of this quality previously.

This is already displaying more floral and fruit-saturated aromatics and texture, and depth of flavour than previous years - all at just under 13% alcohol. Fulsome dark cherry fruits combine with a distinctive 'Graillot' core of bay leaf, spice, anise, graphite, backed up by a savoury, structured backbone and fine, racy freshness. The palate is deeper, yet at the same time more tapered and structured than the No. 2, with greater, spice scented length. The most complete version of this wine yet, with intensity, detail, elegance and length. It's a wine that we feel will comfortably live for 20+ years.
