Quick Overview

Here we go. This has the crackle of quality. It’s well fruited, is bursting with spice, has flint tucked into its shirt and fig slung around its neck. Acidity tears through the wine like a kid at a new bike. Flavour chases right on after it. This is one of those ‘all we have learned’ wines. You can feel history past and present informing its every step. I’m not mentioning value. The wine does it for me.

Product Description

Scout are a new producer of some stunning lo-fi wines made in both Marlborough and the Adelaide Hills. Scout Wines are made by Greg and Sarah Lane, Greg is the brand winemaker for Grove Mill (owned by Foley Family Wines) and the 2018 NZ Young Winemaker of the Year having moved to New Zealand in 2017 after working for the esteemed Shaw + Smith in the Adelaide Hills. The 2017 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is their first wine and combines a hint of skin ferment with lovely, textured layeed fuiit. Here is what they have to say:

"it's a 2017 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, sourced from two different vineyards - one high Piccadilly (550m, steep east facing slopes - the highest part of the Hills) and one near Lobethal, a slightly warmer area. All Bernard clone selection, hand picked, whole bunch pressed with a portion fermented on skins. Cloudy juice, barrel fermented, partial malolactic ferment, bottled in December."

"No details to hand and a new outfit on me, but the wine is very good. Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills. Here we go.
