Quick Overview

Textural glory, sumptuous detail, a svelteness that draws in all that fruit, spice, earth, sweetness, savouriness and sense of young and old material. Kaleidoscopic flavour, exceptional length of ripe dark berry fruit, briary herbal detail and very fine-feeling red-earthy, slightly ferrous tannin shaping the wine and extending it incredibly. The bouquet is so enticing; pot pourri strong in dried rose petal, faint game meat, old leather and spice cupboard, wild forest berries on briar – true perfume. So much to say, so very, very good. You’d say it’s a more substantial Little Wine, but loses none of its energy and sheer delight".

Product Description

An unvintaged ‘assemblage’ composed of casks from 2019 (42%), 2018 (37%), 2017 (13%), 2016 (4%) & 2015 (4%). Exclusively sourced from our five treasured plots within the Hoffmann’s ‘Dallwitz’ vineyard from vines planted in 1996, 1995, 1960, 1927 & the oldest vines planted prior to 1912.
6451 bottles were filled.

"This is now 26 barrels in its composition as a ‘non vintage’ shiraz, with the last of the 2012 wine (topped up, on its lees for all that time), being included. The blend is 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 & 2015. A wine that is definitively creating it’s own currency. About (hey!) 43% is six month old wine.

The first batches were picked at 12.2 beaume, the following fruit cycle the same numbers came out, and then the next fruit cycle, ‘I said to Hoffy [Adrian Hoffman] jokingly, do we just keep picking each ten days here or what?’. It was strange, indeed. The 2.8 hectares was picked over six weeks… for one variety. Such curiosity and thought in this project. Amazing, really.

"The breakdown of components for this #9 release is: 24 barrels (23.5 actually), with nine-and-a-half barrels included from 2019, one barrel from 2015, two from 2016, three from 2017, eight from 2018. If that maths works, fingers crossed, though I am sure it does. The interesting thing is, of course, all those barrels come from varying picks and alcohol levels from each year too – such detail. A symphonic approach.
