Quick Overview

"This one is the for the flint and mineral fans. Strong slate and graphite scents, lemon and apple underlying. The palate is racy, whipcracked with citrus/white flesh stone fruit, charged with that flinty mineral thing going on. Sheesh, it’s got some velocity too. In its style, it’s done brilliantly. A fancy racing car of a wine. Cellar long too.

Product Description

If you’re looking for a wine to partner with scallops, white fish or barbecued pork, look no further. This Chardonnay is yet another great example of why the Dog Point boys receive accolades worldwide for their winemaking prowess. It’s packed with bold aromas of white and yellow stone fruits entwined with citrus, nuts and minerals. Couple that with complex smoky, toasty and oak vanillin characters alongside creamy barrel-ferment layers, and you have one very refined Chardonnay.

Pale Straw in colour.A ripe, citrus driven Chardonnay. Characteristic biscuit and oatmeal secondary characters and mild flinty notes contrast and compliment the fruit. On the palate, our hallmark fresh, vibrant acidity offered by the Mendoza clone offers vitality and vibrancy. A modest amount of new oak delivering subtle char and phenolic structure to the wine. An intensely flavoured yet youthful and lively vintage for Dog Point Chardonnay.

Definitely not shying away from matchstick on the nose, but it costs one heck of a lot less than a Coche wine. Very crystalline with good fruit focus on the mid palate. Very far from sweet. Crisp and rewarding. Great balance and fans out on the finish. I gave it 17 points out of 20 and suggest drinking it 2018–23.

Bright, full, pale golden-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full with rich, ripe and rounded aromas of white stonefruits and citrus fruits entwined with a complex layer of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak in an amalgam of gunflint and mineral reductive complexities. This has richness and breadth and is well-proportioned. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich, mouthfilling flavours of white and yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits melded with a layering of creamy and nutty oak and flinty, minerally reductive complexities, unfolding a little smoke and toast. The fruit richness is balanced by refreshing acidity lending the palate brightness and energy. The wine carries smoothly to a rich, lingering finish. This is a rich, mouthfilling Chardonnay with a complex amalgam of stonefruits, creamy and nutty oak and gunflinty, minerally reduction on a bright, vibrant palate.

Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, October 2018

Bob Campbell MW - 96 Points - Ripe, stylish and quite complex with grapefruit, white peach, nectarine, bran biscuit and subtle mineral and oyster shell flavours. An elegant and appealing wine with an ethereal texture and lengthy finish. Delicious now but might even get a little bitter with a few years’ bottle age.bobcampbell.co.nz, December 2018

One of the top chardonnay wines in New Zealand, generally speaking. Indeed, Dog Point in general excels at its quarries.
