Quick Overview

... the wine really came into its own over the next few days, becoming more giving and generous, the tannins yielding to a gentler hug. A thoroughly seductive wine in the end." Max Allen, jancisrobinson.com

... Boysenberry, mint, hazelnut, spicy oak in the background. Medium bodied, a light glossiness, but the firm dusting of emery tannin sweeps it all clean, the acidity fresh-berried, bursting small-berry flavour, and super length. Intensity, balance, regionality. Superb. Rated : 96 Points   Gary Walsh Winefront.com.au

Product Description

The Gardner family have owned the Spring Farm Estate, the site of both the Adelina winery and vineyards, since 1986. Prior to the inception of Adelina Wines in 2000, Will and Elaine Gardner managed the property and sold fruit to Tim Adams. The Shiraz vineyard here was probably planted circa 1910, no-one knows exactly. Sandwiched between two of the Clare's greatest sites, Wendouree (which lies just 150 meters from Adelina) and The Aberfeldy vineyard, this is an undeniable sweet-spot terroir for Shiraz. The gnarled old vines are beset in a shallow red loam on a base of limestone and slate.

Fruit was hand picked, destemmed and fermented with selected yeast. The ferment spent 42 days on skins. Post pressing the wine was racked to a mix of new and seasoned french oak barriques for 11 months for malo (indigenous bacteria) and maturation. Our note coming soon...

"This, made from century-old Shiraz vines, is the biggest and burliest of the three 2016 Adelina reds when first opened. Rich, dense, opaque black fruit and dark, solid, grippy tannins. In fact, when I tried them, I initially overlooked the Shiraz in favour of the complexity and subtlety of the other two. But the wine really came into its own over the next few days, becoming more giving and generous, the tannins yielding to a gentler hug. A thoroughly seductive wine in the end." Max Allen, jancisrobinson.com

"Well hello there. 100 year old vines, estate grown, and the vineyard is next to Wendouree. 42 days (and nights) on skins. 20% new French oak. 1,388 bottles produced. Let it rain.

Superb.
