  1. Kalleske Wines the Zeitgeist Shiraz 2016

Kalleske Wines the Zeitgeist Shiraz 2016

    Regular Price: $27.99

    Special Price: $24.99

Zeitgeist Shiraz is vivid dark indigo-purple in colour. Stunning perfume is the immediate greeting as the powerful aromas emanate from the glass. It's alive, bursting with uplifting fresh violets, blueberry, blackberry and aniseed. There is bright, pure expressive fruit. Well structured, with natural tannins providing a muscular framework the wine is full in body, flavour and mouthfeel. Notably complex for the age, Zeitgeist is enjoyable now with its primal characters but is powered to cellar well for many years to come.
"Sloshy, soupy-textured wine of dark berry fruitiness, gentle sweetness, whiff of herbs and earths. Potent perfume of berry compote, slick ripe berry fruit to taste, clean, juicy finish lingers with sour-sweet feel. It’s gluggable, slurpy stuff that beckons the drinker back in with urgency. Yum." Rated : 90 Points Winefront.com.au

  2. Clonakilla O'Riada Shiraz 2015

    Clonakilla O'Riada Shiraz 2015

    Regular Price: $40.00

    Special Price: $38.99

    As low as: $37.00

It takes time to open up but once it has it’s a pearl. It’s full of black pepper and five spice character and, indeed, it’s smoky and reductive and a touch stinky. Be warned. It’s that style of wine. But it combines elegance and power, juicy fruit and a taut run of tannin, and in the end it sings long and harmonious. Did I mention nuts? And peppers? And herbs? It’s beautiful now, and it’s going to mature deliciously."

A strikingly fragrant and perfumed effort from Clonakilla, this wine captures you instantaneously. It is superbly constructed, aromatically fragrant, perfumed and darkly fruited; on the palate spice, superfine tannins and then the finish that just lingers and expands.

  3. Yangarra Estate Vineyard Shiraz 2014

    Yangarra Estate Vineyard Shiraz 2014

    Regular Price: $29.00

    Special Price: $27.50

    As low as: $26.00
Estate-grown, 50% whole berries, 25% whole bunches cold soaked, open-fermented, wild yeast, matured in French oak (25% new) for 13 months. Everything falls into place, the design of the jigsaw puzzle taking shape post haste. McLaren Vale fruit essence, with black fruits and potent dark chocolate looking as much to the sky as the earth, the whole bunch elements adding a twist to the main design, eloquent tannins also making a significant contribution.

  1. Gaelic Cemetery Gaelic Cemetery Riesling 2016

    Regular Price: $39.50

    Special Price: $38.00

    As low as: $36.99

"I'm really liking the 2016 Rieslings from South Australia. This wine had been opened two days earlier (I’ve been away) and my wife reliably informs me that it’s much better now. I trust her judgement entirely. Girls are most often better at tasting wine than men, though they seem to lack the ‘Train Spotter’ gene which is responsible for the sometimes obsessive collector mentality found in many males. Offered as a broad generalisation/observation, of course.

Beautiful perfume here – blossoms, lime and green apple – leading into a lean yet curiously flavoursome palate featuring a fine acidity, and very appealing slate and brick dust texture. Super length, finishing with a real lemonade tang (the intensity of flavour meant here, rather than sweetness). Smashing."

  2. Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2015

    Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2015

    Regular Price: $105.00

    Special Price: $99.99

    As low as: $96.00

I’m taken. Gorgeous, silky texture, a symphony of character in fragrance, game meats, herbs, red berries, clove, sweet spice. The palate is incredible – supple, pliant, long, satiny yet etched with the finest tat-work of lacy tannin. It’s savoury, fruit driven, pure-feeling but lifted on fine spicy oak and glossy acidity. In essence, it drinks utterly superbly. It’s next level. It’s a new classic for Clonakilla. Glory be. Rated : 97 Points Winefront.com.au

    Wine Companion tasting note.

James Halliday - Published on 03 Nov 2016

Tim Kirk's Socratean dissatisfaction has led to changes in the vineyard and winery alike. One particular change is the increase in the percentage of whole bunches, resulting in even greater perfume and more texture, yet leaving the mouth fresh. Spices are embroidered on the red fruits with unequalled attention to detail.

  3. Bondar Wines Rayner Vineyard Grenache 2016

Bondar Wines Rayner Vineyard Grenache 2016

    Regular Price: $35.00

    Special Price: $33.99

“Grown on a tiny block of (43 year old) McLaren Vale grenache. Hand picked/selected from the lowest yielding vines. 75% spent 35 days on skins. The remainder spent nine days on skins and was fermented cool. 120 dozen made. It’s a marvellous grenache. It has a bit of beef, a bit of flesh, and yet it promotes dryness, spice and structure ahead of fruit. It’s not thick or massively intense but it’s convincing and indeed powerful, by its own design. Licorice, graphite, flings of dried herbs and bushes, a campfire smokiness. It’s textural, it’s aromatic, it’s a treat. The linger of tannin and flavour here is quite superb. Your best glassware, please.”

  1. The Story Grampians Shiraz 2014

    The Story Grampians Shiraz 2014

    Regular Price: $29.00

    Special Price: $26.99

Rory Lane’s latest Shiraz and it’s a beauty – ...... purple Grampian plum fruit with a white pepper sheen and fine, well formed tannins. Medium bodied, yet with that ripe plum fruit which reminds me of old Bests, and great balance, without losing its ‘mediumness’. It just needs time.
93/100. 13.5%, $29. Would I buy it? Sure would. Two for the cellar thanks. Ozwinereview

The wine itself is outstanding. .... Feeling the curl of tannin here as it breaks through your mouth is like watching a wave form; it has that same kind or irresistible momentum, and that same kind of beauty. If this was double its price I’d still be tempted. "

Wicks Estate Adelaide Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

    Special Price: $20.00

    As low as: $19.00

There’s no need to decant this: immediately on opening it goes straight into the zone. This is a beautiful drinking cabernet, for now or for later, bursting with blackcurrant and bay leaf flavours/aromas and full of freshness and life. It’s unmistakably cabernet and yet it’s juicy, balanced, and highly drinkable even as a young wine. Hints of chocolate and fresh garden herbs add to the show. The price is in the drinker’s favour."
