"A warmer year in a cooler site is often a winning combination. No 1er made this year, as I understand it.

Ripe grapefruit, peach, almond nougat, fennel, a dusting of spice, slight struck match. Light and fresh, good burst of peach and citrus, crunch of limey acidity, some flinty texture, and a gently viscous and nougat tinged aftertaste. It has length and flavour, and feels open for play straight away, though showed even better the next day. Like this a lot. Touch and go for 94 points."

"Hoddles Creek probably about the best $20 you can spend on Australian Pinot Noir. It’s almost ludicrous.

It’s rosy, slightly peppery, red fruited, almost minerally, with spicy biscuit oak gently folded in. Light to medium bodied, fine sweep of emery board tannin, fine acidity, delicate flavour, bright and fine boned, with no annoying sweet and sour flavours, and a firm insistently tannic finish.
    Serious Pinot satisfaction here.

96 Points. A concentrated and deeply flavoursome Grenache from the sandy Vine Vale soils, this has attractive spicy red and purple berry fruits with some gently stony, almost flinty edges and hints of wild roasting herbs. The palate's beautifully fresh and lithe, really nicely honed in terms of tannin, and vibrant and succulent. Red-plum and dark-cherry flavours snap fresh through the finish.

  1. Tolpuddle Pinot Noir 2015

    Tolpuddle Pinot Noir 2015

    Regular Price: $75.00

    Special Price: $72.50

Ray Jordan  97 Points  Weekend Western Australian - .... this stunning wine comes from a single site in the Coal River Valley. Notes of sour cherry and spices with a little cinnamon and clove. Palate is smooth and textured but with a fine, firmish core of chalky tannins and fine-grained oak. Lick of precise acid to finish. An impressive wine.

Campbell Mattinson 94 Points ....... It combines personality with discipline; it finishes taut and controlled. If it was walking down the street you’d sneak a second look or two. The Wine Front, November 2016

James Halliday  97 Points Bright, clear crimson; right up there with the best of the best from a great Tasmanian vintage. There is a purity to the red and black cherry/berry fruits that shines through the portals of the savoury/ spicy tannins. A luminous future will richly repay those who are patient.

  2. Wicks Estate Adelaide Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Wicks Estate Adelaide Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

    Regular Price: $21.50

    Special Price: $20.00

There’s no need to decant this: immediately on opening it goes straight into the zone. This is a beautiful drinking cabernet, for now or for later, bursting with blackcurrant and bay leaf flavours/aromas and full of freshness and life. It’s unmistakably cabernet and yet it’s juicy, balanced, and highly drinkable even as a young wine. Hints of chocolate and fresh garden herbs add to the show. The price is in the drinker’s favour."

  3. Clonakilla O'Riada Shiraz 2015

    Clonakilla O'Riada Shiraz 2015

    Regular Price: $40.00

    Special Price: $38.99

It takes time to open up but once it has it’s a pearl. It’s full of black pepper and five spice character and, indeed, it’s smoky and reductive and a touch stinky. Be warned. It’s that style of wine. But it combines elegance and power, juicy fruit and a taut run of tannin, and in the end it sings long and harmonious. Did I mention nuts? And peppers? And herbs? It’s beautiful now, and it’s going to mature deliciously."
    Rated : 95 Points Winefront.com.au

A strikingly fragrant and perfumed effort from Clonakilla, this wine captures you instantaneously. It is superbly constructed, aromatically fragrant, perfumed and darkly fruited; on the palate spice, superfine tannins and then the finish that just lingers and expands.

"In the scheme of Australian nebbiolo, currently, this is sensational value. More kudos to the whip smart winemaking nous of braniacs Colin McBryde and Jennie Gardner, and of course, the wonderful grapes grown on the Gardner estate (though this isn’t grown there).

This has charisma. Old rose petals, sweet pot pourri, pepper, Chinese five spice, dark cherries. Great bouquet, evocative and enticing. Palate is juicy, deep in flavour, richer than expected but tied down on peeling waves of building, puckering, suede tannins. Has a sexy brushed velvet feel to it across it’s huge length. Antipasto watch out. Sensational drinking." Rated : 93 Points Winefront.com.au

"2014 Passopisciaro  Passorosso (Formerly Passopisciaro) Bright red-ruby. The captivating nose combines strawberry, raspberry, minerals, violet and flint aromas. Creamy-sweet but amazingly light on its feet, offering palate-staining, perfumed flavors of soft red berries, ripe red cherry, vanilla, aromatic herbs and crushed rock. Rich, ripe and suave, but displays a penetrating, saline and energetic quality that gives this beauty a three-dimensional mouthfeel and a light-on-its-feet quality.

Finishes with great length and wonderfully polished tannins.

Absolute knockout wine: from a memorable vintage on Etna,

this is most likely the best Passorosso ever (in earlier vintages, it used to be called simply Passopisciaro). Mainly Nerello Mascalese."

" ... Hazelnuts dipped in chocolate, spice, boysenberries, sage and black jelly beans. Or something like that; I’d hate to be too specific. It’s medium bodied, has fine grained tannin, and combines a savoury dimension with supreme slurpability. Tannin rolls on the finish and cleans everything up. Oh, has some dried flower perfume too.
    They’ve turned out a beauty in 2016. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this. " Rated : 93 Points Winefront.com.au

    SC Pannell GST 2016

    Regular Price: $28.99

    Special Price: $27.50

    As low as: $25.50

The nose shows concentrated red fruit characters, strawberry, red liquorice, cherry primary fruit aromas mixed with fennel seed and black liquorice notes from Shiraz, completed by spicy, cinnamon, allspice notes, creates vibrant concentrated primary fruit aromatics with subtle spice and savoury notes adding to complexity. The wine is full and broad on the palate with juicy red fruit character up front, and the finish is firm due to fine-grained, dusty tannins which add length and complexity from the spicy/savoury notes of Shiraz and Touriga. There's great balance between primary fruit notes and savoury/spice complexity, and the intensity of pure, fresh fruit is particularly impressive.

This fragrant red offers alluring scents of rose, red berry and cake spice. The radiant, structured palate is endowed with finesse, offering ripe black cherry, raspberry, licorice and flinty mineral. Firm, refined tannins and bright acidity provide the framework.
Drink 2020 through 2025. 93 points Wine Enthusiast

High toned with purple flower and almost Syrah-like Leather and spices on the back palate which donate richness and structure to the wine.
