  1. Head Wines the Blonde 2012

    Head Wines the Blonde 2012

    Regular Price: $39.99

    Special Price: $37.50

    As low as: $36.00

Distinctly peppery and stalky, vanilla and floral perfume, chocolate and black fruit – like a serious furrowed brow Pinot Noir! Medium to full bodied, pretty firm and tense in the mouth, not so slippery and seductive as previous releases; the blond has gone all librarian on us and means business. But let’s get down to business! Chocolate, vanilla and stalk with firm tannin on a long finish. Interesting. I like it. Stamp my card. 95 points Winefront.com.au

  2. Yelland & Papps Devote Shiraz Rousanne 2011

Yelland & Papps Devote Shiraz Rousanne 2011
    $33.00

$35; 13.5% alcohol; screw cap; 94+ points Phillip White - THIS wine just stole my tattered heart.
My first taste of a Shiraz Roussanne blend came in the form of d’Arenberg’s The Wild Pixie 2008. This has an even larger Roussanne component of 15% and it’s actually the better wine  ...  Flagrantly floral and outrageously perfumed. Purple fruits, anise, pepper, raspberry and a whole cornucopia of other fragrances. The white grape influence is not only apparent on the nose but also the palate which is silky and slippery with fine, drying tannin. It’s a crazy ride but an enjoyable one just the same. If John Waters made a wine this would be it. 93 Very Good Wine Will Eat Itself

  3. Yelland & Papps Second Take Shiraz 2012

Yelland & Papps Second Take Shiraz 2012
    $38.00

93 points - Philip White - ... . manufacture, then charging an extra fiver for making available the privilege of drinking her raw and unwritten. Get some mates and lovers round for dinner. Dob in and buy one each of these. Then bring three conventional favourites, pour ’em blind, and argue all night.
Deep, bright crimson-purple; the deeply-fruited bouquet leads into an immaculately balanced and structured medium- to full-bodied palate, with plum, black cherry and blackberry to the fore, quality oak and fine-grained tannins bringing up the finish. 95 points James Halliday

... right in the middle with imperceptibly nuttiness and taut, citrus fruit. This is one of them. The Twelfth Man is a gripping white from a winery that really specialises in red wines. It's very clever to nail all of the skills and that's without you turning to their little after dinner surprise at the end of this list!" Matthew Jukes, 100 Best Australian Wines 2013/14, May 2013

  2. Tim Smith Wines Mataro 2012

    Tim Smith Wines Mataro 2012

    Regular Price: $35.00

    Special Price: $33.33

    As low as: $32.99

Why this wine works is quite simple really - it is so bloody pure. It tastes ripe, generous and gently rich, unencumbered by excessive oak or artifice and tapping instead into the magic of old vine Mataro from a super vintage.....The end result here is a generous and quite energetic Mataro with an almost carbonic like black jube juiciness. It's much more approachable than your usual gruff and tannic Barossa Mataro, lifted by sweet berry oak and looking utterly black fruited, yet still finely structured enough to keep it savoury (and delicious). A lovely expression of Barossa Mataro.Drink: 2013-2023Score: 18.5/20, 94/100 Andrew Graham

... lovely things, but chalk and cheese in style.  While this is Tim’s first straight Grenache under his own brand, we should approach with the respect due his Chateau Tanunda The Everest Old Bush Vine Grenache 2008, which won the International Wine Trade Fair trophy for being the World’s Best Single Estate Red Wine in London.  Welcome back aboard the Grenache train, Mister Smith!
.... typical light colour, and a touch of sweet confection that is entirely varietal in the Barossa Valley context; a plus is the focus preserved by the moderate alcohol, often missing in action. 93 points James Halliday
.... The flavours bounce around your mouth. It has a warmth but it has an elegance. Sweet at its core but only just. This is a terrific Oz grenache. Its best should be ahead of it. 93 points Winefront.com.au

Blackberry, plum, a little nougat and coconut, chocolate. Classic modern Barossa with a nod to tradition. Medium to full bodied, round and supple with ultra-fine grained tannin fleshing out the palate and just-right acidity through its core. Long through the finish with a kiss of oak and perfectly ripe dark berry fruit. Textbook. Here’s the style of Barossa Shiraz that hits a chord with me.
Open string E, perhaps. Could rate it one higher, but won’t. It’s not one louder, it’s one better. 94 points. Winefront.com.au

  2. Greywacke Wild Sauvignon

    Greywacke Wild Sauvignon

    Regular Price: $37.00

    Special Price: $35.99

    As low as: $34.00

Some old French oak, wild yeast, time on lees, funk. Not your usual NZ sauvignon blanc. Excellent intensity. A tonne of wild character. Gravel, tropical fruit, sweat, earth, thistles, orange peels, sulphur. Has a slippery smooth coating to it, but pulpy passionfruity acidity refuses to be calmed. So intense it almost hurts. Excellent lingering finish. Armed and dangerous style of sauvignon blanc. In-your-face but remarkable quality. Rated : 94 Points WInefront.com.au

classic Barossa and superimposes it onto a resolutely medium-bodied palate of finely textured, honed tannins and tangy acidity. Black plums, black cherries and violets carry seamlessly through a lively and crunchy palate, accented with fruit mince spice, dark chocolate and black pepper."
