Full crimson-purple; from a single old vine vineyard in the Ebenezer district of the Barossa Valley. A very different wine to 429, with a more lacy and open texture, travelling to spice and pepper flavours more typical of much cooler regions. A long and very tight finish. Delicious wine, and will improve (quite a lot I think) with a little sleep in the cellar! Is a really good and very interesting wine that will develop into something even more in 3-5 years. The architecture is stunning. Cranberry accented acidity and ripe, graphite/mineral tannin. It moves from entry to exit without any interruption and the extension is remarkable .... Here’s the second Barossa 2011 red that shows what uncommonly bright humans of exceptional sensory nous can do in the worst vintage of recent history. For once in my life, I can confidently quote a press release without rewriting the damn thing. This beauty seems to have taken some of the worst of the wettest vintage in history (I think that’s official now) and used it to become more French than Barossan. Excellent vitality and drinkability. Blackberries, cranberries, sap and smoke. Has that ashen, meaty note so characteristic of cool vintages like 2002 and 2011. Has enough sweetness though to keep Barossa shiraz drinkers happy. Enough slurpy, smooth texture. Clovey, peppery, licoricey finish. Compact and complex. Great wine to hook into.
