93 points. Mike Bennie.  "It’s super-jubey, but with a good whack of tannins and pepper to close which makes the wine that much more compelling. Great style here. Should be more of it."
90 points, Wine Genius - "Bright, almost fluorescent purple. Quite floral with sweet cherry, raspberry jam and juicy / crackling fruit. Highly primary, raspy tannins, with a long and luxurious finish."

This is the best Philip with living memory, a tribute to the vintage, but also the changing of the guard in the upper winemaking echelons of McWilliam's.It is medium-bodied, and absolutely typical Hunter, with its gently earthy foundation for the blackberry and plum fruit flavours, the tannins precisely detailed, and even some oak coming into play.

Big spice hit in the bouquet, almost piquant, gingery and cinnamon, sidles up to the floral stuff pretty well. Tension in texture, a slick then chalkiness; a flow of sour-sweet fruit that finishes tight and puckering. Cool reserve. Texture is great here and the wine has big refreshment factor too.

    Unico Zelo Fiano 2014

Powerful perfume. Warmth of pear and apple blossom stuff with some blanched almond nuttiness. Paints a picture. Texture is mouth-coating but very fresh, extra-long in flavour and set to medium bodied. Glossy through the palate, gently sweet and with a building lemony pucker through the close. Light nectar. Really delicious and complexity is in tow.
The best Australian fiano I’ve seen so far. 94 points Winefront.com.au

    Thousand Candles Yarra Valley 2013

    Regular Price: $110.00

    Special Price: $105.00

It evolves and morphs in a gripping odyssey, leaping out of the glass with violets, exotic spice, black fruits and fresh liquorice straps, scaffolded around a mouth-embracing structure of wonderfully fine tannins.
If you must know, the best of 100% whole bunch cool climate shiraz (55%) meets 50% whole bunch pinot noir (40%) and a dash of sauvignon blanc (5%).

This release hits the groove and rolls with it from start to finish. Cloves, plums, blackberry and chocolate. You know the drill, and know if it’s your cuppa. Tannin rumbles through the finish. Length is good. This is a very good (indeed, excellent) release of this popular label. 93 points Winefront.com.au
