  1. Ashton Hills Reserve Pinot Noir 2012

Ashton Hills Reserve Pinot Noir 2012

"95 Points. Straight up, immediately on opening, this offers superb pinot noir drinking. ...... For pure, meaty/spicy, concentrated power, this wine takes some beating. Alcohol: 14% Price: $65 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2016 - 2024" - 95 points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

No point horsing about, let's just call this what it is - one of Australia's best Pinot Noirs. ......   Dear God it's a beautiful wine. I found myself unconsciously drinking my sample of this when tasted this afternoon, which is the ultimate sign of something .... special. I had the good fortune of trying a sample from two different bottles, opened a day apart, and can confirm that both bottles looked equally glorious (more oak richness showing on the fresher bottle, more complexity in the older). I'm buying some, even though I have random wine in nearly every room of my house. It's that good. 96 points Would I buy it? I am. Australian Wine Review

  2. Ravensworth Canberra le Querce Sangiovese 2013

Ravensworth Canberra le Querce Sangiovese 2013

    Regular Price: $26.50

    Special Price: $25.00

    As low as: $22.50

One of the best Australian Sangioveses I’ve tasted. On its tenth vintage so I've taken my time getting to it.Deeply cherried with excellent sweet-savoury interplay. Almond skins, dried herbs, orange peel, a dusting of cocoa and plenty of leathery, chewy tannin to satisfy you long after you swallow. The acidity seems to sit especially comfortably within the wine and the back-palate is wonderfully earthen and aniseedy. Looked better and better over three days. Will surely age well. 93 points Wine Will Eat Itself

Red berries and dark cherry dominate the nose, firm mid palate tannins lead to pleasing acidity on the back. Benchmark Australian Pinot Noir.

Deep purple-crimson, it is sourced from two estate blocks and one local grower .... the best selected for this wine. 14% alc; screwcap 95 points James Halliday Weekend Australian
.....This wine needs a huge sleep in a dark place to build on that already noticable complexity, to soften out and round off those tannins, and to let that coiled up power and intensity, uncoil. Seriously, the BEST Australian Malbec wine I have ever tried, and a cellar special ... a special wine this one. - Gavin Trott

...Sweet plum and vanilla meet notes of soy, crushed leaf, woody spice and clove. Intricately tannic. Winds up and lets fly with a style punch of flavour through the finish. Drink to 2027." 94 points Campbell Mattinson, James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2015, 1 August 2014
.... Richness in perfume, wholesome red and black currant fruit, warm and spiced, some leather and licorice in the mix too. Lovely scents. Glide and slide across the palate, but not formless, holding a tension from fine sheets of tannin and crisp acidity. Mouthwatering to finish. Feels elegant." 94 points Mike Bennie, www.winefront.com.au, 2 June 2014

.....Bright crimson-purple; has absorbed the oak while preserving the cassis fruits and softening the tannins; good length and balance. Drink to 2027." 94 points James Halliday, James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2015, 1 August 2014
..... Langhorne fruit exuberance, all blackberried and blueberried, but with grainy, smoky, gum leafy tannin keeping it firm and strict and proper. Full-bodied but not overdone. Sound, fruit-filled length. Oak as a complement but not in an overt and dominant manner. Will keep developing in the cellar over a good number of years. 93+ points Winefront

This is the best Philip with living memory, a tribute to the vintage, but also the changing of the guard in the upper winemaking echelons of McWilliam's.It is medium-bodied, and absolutely typical Hunter, with its gently earthy foundation for the blackberry and plum fruit flavours, the tannins precisely detailed, and even some oak coming into play.

Big spice hit in the bouquet, almost piquant, gingery and cinnamon, sidles up to the floral stuff pretty well. Tension in texture, a slick then chalkiness; a flow of sour-sweet fruit that finishes tight and puckering. Cool reserve. Texture is great here and the wine has big refreshment factor too.
