Full crimson-purple; from a single old vine vineyard in the Ebenezer district of the Barossa Valley. A very different wine to 429, with a more lacy and open texture, travelling to spice and pepper flavours more typical of much cooler regions. Deep colour; vivid hue; fresh black fruits, licorice, toasty oak and sappy complexity are all evident on the bouquet; the palate is dark and chewy, but falls short of being ponderous, as the wine progresses at an even and stately pace across the palate; excellent execution indeed. 96 points James Halliday

Cracked pepper, cherry-plum, some mulberry and blackberry and earth. Maybe there’s a kiss of malty, toasty oak but it’s subtle and integrated. Good amount of both fruit flesh and tannin. It’s just a beaut drinking wine. 91 points Winefront.com.au

Light but bright colour; how much the wine owes to winemaker Peter Schell's skills and how much to the (old) vines doesn't matter, for the wine has great vibrancy and energy to the red berry fruits of its grenache/cinsaut blend. 92 points James Halliday
