The 2012 The Empress Riesling shows great fruit purity on the palate with fresh, expressive “Bickfords” lime cordial characters along with grapefruit and lemon sorbet zing. After the initial pure citrus flavours the wine glides across the mid-palate with an energetic gait showing hints of crushed quartz, orange blossom, white flowers and talc with lighter nuances of lemon curd and clotted cream. The wine finishes with a well-defined, minerally line of acidity that shows great energy and spark as it guides the pure citrus and floral elements through to a persistent and dangerously moreish finish.
Learn MoreThis is a ripe and immediate vintage for Mike Press pinot, making it spot on for drinking right away. It’s a fruity style of wild strawberries, ripe raspberries, a hint of brambles and finely textured tannins. 14.8 on the alcohol scale is a big number for this timid grape, but the high altitude acidity of this vineyard keeps it bright and fresh, toning its warm finish. Enticingly underpriced Tyson Tselzer

The bouquet is full of mocha oak, sarsaparilla and plums; the palate is fleshy, forward, rich and fresh, showing the McLaren Vale side of this variety's personality; generous, but not to a fault, just a lovely drink. 92 points James Halliday

The Barossa Wine Show delivered a result for the people this year, naming an $18 sensation as its finest white wine of any variety and any age. It ticks every box: delicate fragrance of lime blossom and lemon zest, precise palate focus of granny smith apples, slatey structure and an outstanding acid line that carries long into the finish. Drink: 2012-2014 or 2017-2022 94 points Tyson Tselzer
... firmer, more intense and filled with zesty lime juice flavours, bolstered and lengthened by good acidity; it carries its message through the length of the palate and aftertaste. 94 points James Halliday Top 100 Wines
