  1. Parnasse Cabernet Sauvignon

    Parnasse Cabernet Sauvignon

    Regular Price: $14.00

    Special Price: $13.50

    As low as: $13.00

Likely I won’t make any new friends by saying it, but most Australian red wine under $15 is kind of gross. Well, maybe not gross, but often they try too hard: too much cheap oak, sweetness, acid adjustment, high alcohol etc. etc. all at the expense of basic drinkability.
Blueberry and mixed berries, wild herbs and nuts with a little chocolate. Medium bodied, light tannin with some grainy grip , balanced acidity and a nutty faintly perfumed herbal finish. Great mid-week drinking. Balance and value.
Can’t recommend it highly enough. 90 points Gary Walsh Winefront.com.au

Riposte The Sabre Pinot Noir 2013

    Regular Price: $31.50

    Special Price: $30.00

    Small batch open-fermented and 10 months in French oak (25% new). The bouquet sings of red and black cherry, allied with twists of raspberry and oak, the palate effortlessly carrying on with the refrain of the bouquet;
has particularly good drive through to the finish and slightly savoury aftertaste.

...... black Russian tomatoes steaming on the toast, dribbling beneath a shiny port and cream reduction, black pepper everywhere. This makes surrender a delight. It’s a third the price of a good Bandol, and a tiny fraction of the cost of that air ticket.
Be quick! Sublime in as many ways as I can think, and believe me, my sodden old brain has spread so wide it’s dribbling off the edges of the plate.

... lovely things, but chalk and cheese in style.  While this is Tim’s first straight Grenache under his own brand, we should approach with the respect due his Chateau Tanunda The Everest Old Bush Vine Grenache 2008, which won the International Wine Trade Fair trophy for being the World’s Best Single Estate Red Wine in London.  Welcome back aboard the Grenache train, Mister Smith!
.... typical light colour, and a touch of sweet confection that is entirely varietal in the Barossa Valley context; a plus is the focus preserved by the moderate alcohol, often missing in action. 93 points James Halliday
.... The flavours bounce around your mouth. It has a warmth but it has an elegance. Sweet at its core but only just. This is a terrific Oz grenache. Its best should be ahead of it. 93 points Winefront.com.au

Blackberry, plum, a little nougat and coconut, chocolate. Classic modern Barossa with a nod to tradition. Medium to full bodied, round and supple with ultra-fine grained tannin fleshing out the palate and just-right acidity through its core. Long through the finish with a kiss of oak and perfectly ripe dark berry fruit. Textbook. Here’s the style of Barossa Shiraz that hits a chord with me.
Open string E, perhaps. Could rate it one higher, but won’t. It’s not one louder, it’s one better. 94 points. Winefront.com.au

  3. Woodlands Chardonnay 2013

    Woodlands Chardonnay 2013

The colour of our 2013 Chardonnay is vibrant straw. The nose reveals peach, pear, struck match and toasty French oak notes. The palate carries a sweet middle core of stone fruits, quince, cashews and spice, finishing bright and textured from the natural acidity. This wine will be best enjoyed from 2016 to 2019.

  1. Woodlands Cabernet Franc Merlot 2012

    Woodlands Cabernet Franc Merlot 2012

47% Cabernet Franc, 46% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and how good are Woodlands wines at the moment? They are absolutely killing it. Raspberry, redcurrant, tobacco, aniseed and violet perfume, kiss of choc-vanilla oak along with some grassy varietal Franc notes. Medium bodied, fresh and red fruited – positively leaps through the mouth like those gazelles that go in and about clefts – grainy tannin controls and shapes, then there’s tight firm finish that runs pretty damn long. Mainly though, it’s just so good to drink. Vibrant and delicious.92+ points Winefront.com.au

Bright hue; a tightly scripted exercise in precision, balance and length, its blackcurrant and spice fruit driving the fresh, medium-bodied palate; the varietal mix and sense of place occupy equal parts of the stage. 94 points James Halliday
... Medium bodied, firm in the mouth with open weave grainy tannin – tactile things they are – red and black fruit, tobacco and clear acidity. Love the slick of grainy tannin on the finish that marks it a more serious wine than you’re paying for. A terrific vintage for this wine.

  3. Greywacke Wild Sauvignon

    Greywacke Wild Sauvignon

    Regular Price: $37.00

    Special Price: $35.99

    As low as: $34.00

Some old French oak, wild yeast, time on lees, funk. Not your usual NZ sauvignon blanc. Excellent intensity. A tonne of wild character. Gravel, tropical fruit, sweat, earth, thistles, orange peels, sulphur. Has a slippery smooth coating to it, but pulpy passionfruity acidity refuses to be calmed. So intense it almost hurts. Excellent lingering finish. Armed and dangerous style of sauvignon blanc. In-your-face but remarkable quality. Rated : 94 Points WInefront.com.au
