"Pushes most of the pinot buttons, relying on good fruit rather than winemaker artifice to do the job. But it’s richly textured, savoury and has the backbone of a good pinot. Cellaring? No need, lap it up now!" Chrisshanahan.com
Learn More..... opens up with power and precision in an almost pinot-like sensuality; long precise and destined to go the distance.” – 96 Points Ben Edwards for James Halliday's Wine Companion.
“it’s fresh, boysenberried, cherry-plummed and beautifully well ripened, with a refreshing feel from go to whoa. Some chicory, rubber and cedar-spicy-smoky oak too. And good reach through the finish to boot. In fact it’s polished and well-balanced all round.” – 93 Points Campbell Mattinson
medium brick red in colour with an attractive cherry, plum, berry nose and with already a hit of barnyard complexity. There is sweet fruit along the length of the medium weight palate while a touch of stalky tannin lengthens the palate and provides the bit of grip so important for rood and longevity. I think you'll find the wine quite delicious now but suggest cellaring for around five years if it's those developed, funky, forest floor characters you're after.
Learn MoreJust like biting into a fresh pear, more Nashi than other varieties, slightly chilled of course. Crisp and fine.
Surprisingly soft considering the zingy start and following tight finish. The fresh acidity coupled with an enticing spice quality through the back-end of the palate make this a really interesting but refreshing.
Learn MoreIt's medium to full bodied, crunchy fresh and cool, expressive and juicily vibrant with tannin that bobs and weaves, and fans out on the long finish. Almost like a Pinot Noir in some respects, but not. But gee it's good though. Drinking it makes you feel like interesting things are happening, somewhere out there in the world. This Barbera has a deep ruby color with a filtered appearance. There is a beautiful bouquet of red fruit, currants and a hint of perfumed violets and some musty cellar floor. This is a medium bodied wine with a winning flavor combination of dark berry, plum, cranberry, chocolate and lead pencil. True to Barbera’s reputation, there is gripping acidity and a whisper of smooth tannins. The finish is long and lingering.
