     James Halliday's wine tasting note
A 50/50% blend of the Griggs and estate vineyards. Powerful, intense and long, with a savoury foresty undertone to the fruit profile giving layers of flavour and textural complexity. A new wine for Ashton Hills, the Griggs Vineyard at a lower, warmer altitude.

    James Halliday's wine tasting note

The fragrant, gently spiced bouquet and palate are akin to a miniature painting, exquisite in its detail; complete harmony is the key to this wine, its length exceptional, extended by the forest berry/forest floor overlay on the finish.

"96 Points. A coherent, effortless, seamless celebration of a great season of Pinot, uniting beautifully defined cherry and berry fruits with silky, finely textured tannins and refined poised acidity. 14%" - Tyson Stelzer
....... speaks with clarity of its single site origin; prodigious length, with red fruits and savoury nuances. 14% alc; screwcap. 95 points; drink to 2025; $86" - James Halliday, The Australian, July 26, 2014.
"95 Points. This is a gorgeous pinot noir.....an extra degree of concentration. It's full of tangy sweet-sour character with myriad herb and spice notes parading across. Sexy oak plays an unabashed role but no more than is appropriate to the depth and quality of the fruit. Sinewy, spicy, sizzling tannin draws out through the finish. Top notch at every turn." - 95 points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

    Regular Price: $35.00

Picked at a level of ripeness ideal for the production of this style of Chardonnay. The wine was fermented using indigenous yeasts in new and used French hogsheads and barriques. The wine spent 10 months on yeast lees prior to bottling.

Straw. Cool climate Chardonnay characters prevail with grapefruit, melon, white stone fruit, mineral and a hint of struck match. The palate is medium weight, with fine acidity, length and balance.

The wine itself is soft and approachable with juicy plum and pomegranate flavours. The tannins are quite grainy and persistent similar to cranberry juice. The oak in this wine definitely sits in the background allowing the fruit to shine and the acidity and alcohol levels are nicely balanced in the wine, making it very easy to drink.

Mixed berries, cocoa and vanilla, tobacco, and this lovely perfume wafting about. Medium bodied, silky and tightly packed, clean acidity, ripe but fresh berry fruit, with a distinct ‘minerally’ feel to it. Freshness, length, complexity and effortless drinkability.
Absolutely bang on. Can’t recall a better release of this wine. 93 points Winefront.com.au

    Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay 2014

    Regular Price: $22.00

    Special Price: $19.80

Hoddles Creek Estate chardonnay never misses a beat.

This release comes in immaculate conditional. It’s steely, elegant, long and alluring. Strong flavours of pear and spice, white peach and nectarine swish through the palate, aided subtly by meal and smoky oak. Everything is exactly where you’d like it to be; it will though be a better wine in another 6-12 months time, and thereafter. 93+ points Winefront.com.au

"Quite simply, it’s a beautiful wine to drink.

Buy some, buy lots. It’s such a charming drink. Ripe but savoury, spicy but rich with succulent appeal. One sip and you just want to settle back and go on with it. Cherries, dry leaves, some mint, the sweet smoky spiciness of oak. Sourness, just a touch.
Pinot noir to the Nth degree. High value? Yes. Again.

The grapes for this wine came from Michael Vischacki's Panorama Vineyard in the Huon Valley, and the Ellis family's Meadowbank Vineyard in the Derwent Valley; whole bunch-pressed direct to used French oak for wild yeast fermentation and maturation.
Its delicacy and immaculate balance are deceptive, for the white peach and creamy/nutty fruit flavours have great length. 96 points James Halliday
